Jinger Duggar Vuolo On Why She Opted Out Of Controversial Duggar Documentary

Jinger Duggar Vuolo spoke about her absence in a documentary series about her family’s ultra-conservative beliefs, despite being an outspoken family member.

The media personality rose to fame as the sixth child of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. Along with his siblings, the 29-year-old starred in the canceled TLC series “19 Kids and Counting.”

The show follows the IBLP teachings of the family, rooted in simplicity and commitment to God. However, since breaking free, the TV personality has told a different story about his former religion.

When it came to revealing the truth about the Duggar clan’s radical religious beliefs, Jinger didn’t hesitate to share her story. However, the mother of two recently explained to PEOPLE why she pulled out of Prime Video’s four-episode series.

The streaming platform’s new program, “Shiny People: Duggar Family Secrets,” promises to delve into the TV personality’s controversial practices under Bill Gothard’s Institute for Basic Living Principles (IBLP). The 29-year-old’s younger sister Jill Duggar Dillard and their cousin Amy Duggar King are among the chosen members of the show.

According to the “Bergantung Pada” star, he was approached by representatives of the series to join them on a journey to tell about his family’s dark past with the disgraced minister. Despite the attractive offer, the entertainer wanted to share only his narrative.

“I was actually approached and asked to participate in a documentary, but I think that from my perspective, I really wanted to make sure that I could share my story in my own words and in my own time,” Jinger admitted.

“So that’s why I wrote Becoming Free Indeed, which is to share more of my journey out of IBLP teachings. I want to be able to share in a way that, like, glorifies God and hopefully shares my story in a balanced way,” explained the mother of two.

Despite refusing to participate in the Prime Video series, Jinger insists that she is looking forward to the program. After hearing “a little bit” about the show from her sister, the 29-year-old said she was “excited” to hear what Jill had to say in the documentary.

In one of his many confessions about the negative impact of the Duggar family’s strict doctrine on his life, the “The Hope We Hold” author recalls some of his traumatic childhood experiences. According to the former TLC star, “fear” was an important part of her youth.

“I thought I had to wear only skirts and dresses to please God. The music with the drums, the places I go, or the wrong friendships can all bring harm,” the media personality revealed, adding that he feared for his life after playing a game of broomball with his family.

“I thought I could get killed in a car accident on the way because I don’t know if God wants me to stay at home and read my Bible,” continued the 29-year-old. This fear is caused by Gothard’s strict IBLP teachings, which Jinger says creates anxiety in people.

“[Gothard’s] teachings, in short, are based on fear and superstition and leave you in a place where you feel, ‘I don’t know what God expects of me,’” explained the mother of two. “Fear paralyzes me with anxiety. I am afraid of the outside world.”

Jill Duggar Dillard Reveals She Was Hesitating Before Joining Documentary About Her Family

Days before her younger sister revealed why she didn’t take part in “Shiny Happy People,” Jill admitted that it was a difficult decision to join the cast of the explosive documentary. In an excerpt from the program, the 32-year-old explained that he thought about dealing with his family’s dark IBLP history.

“Yeah, I mean, this interview isn’t easy, and I don’t want to do it,” the Arkansas native said nervously. “There’s a lot there. Like, do I want to open that can of worms?”

Although hesitant, the former TLC star shared her narrative about her past, including her traumatic experience at the hands of her oldest brother Josh Duggar. In 2015, the Duggar clan revealed that their scorned son had inappropriately touched five girls.

The victims included a nanny and Josh’s four sisters, two of whom were Jill and Jessa. Opening up about the ordeal, the “Growing Up Duggar” co-author said:

“It’s hard to go through. There are many families in the same situation. But it was very different, in the sense that my family was on television.
