Jodie Turner-Smith Reveals New Details About Her ‘Star Wars’ Character In ‘The Acolyte’

Actress Jodie Turner-Smith is set to travel to a galaxy far, far away.

The 36-year-old actress recently appeared with another “Star Wars” alum, Adam Driver, in 2022’s “White Noise.” Turner-Smith won’t be starring in the film, though. Instead, he will appear in the Disney+ series “The Acolyte.”

Star Wars fans can’t wait to see “The Acolyte,” set during the final days of the High Republic era. The mystery-thriller series, helmed by Leslye Headland, will tell the story of a former Padawan who reunites with his Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes.

During an interview for Murder Mystery 2, Collider asked Turner-Smith if she could reveal any details about “The Acolyte.” Turner-Smith is quick to say that the project is unlike anything else she has done in her career.

“Obviously, the subject is different. It’s different when everything you do is light, and that’s not what I did for Star Wars,” he explained. “But I’m working with my favorite director I’ve worked with so far, Kogonada, and under Leslye Headland. It was incredible to see. I can’t wait to see how this show goes.”

The show stars Amandla Stenberg, best known for her small role as Rue in the first “Hunger Games movie.” Unfortunately, the two don’t seem to share any scenes together. “Amandla is an amazing entertainer,” he explained. “I, unfortunately, didn’t have any scenes with him, but I got to see a little bit of what they were doing, and I thought it was going to be epic, and it’s never been seen before in that universe.”

Although Jodie-Turner Smith admitted that her character is “not a Jedi,” it looks like she’s still getting a chance to wield some pretty awesome weapons regardless. “I can’t use a lightsaber… but I… can’t use a lightsaber,” he said, as if walking back whatever he was about to reveal. Hopefully fans will find out more about his character at the annual Star Wars Celebration event in London next month!

Amandla first announced she was joining the new series by posing with Darth Vader and R2-D2 at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con. In an Instagram post announcing the news, she wrote, “Next stop: a galaxy far, far away… I’m so excited to finally announce I’m joining Star Wars: #TheAcolyte ! Respected is an understatement. May the Force be with you.”

In an interview with The Face magazine (via Game Rant) Amandla was surprised to hear that producer Lucasfilm had written the main character of the series with her specifically in mind.

“The Lucasfilm team came to me with this project that was completely conceptualized in my mind, and I was surprised,” he told the publication. While some performers aren’t too familiar with Star Wars when they get cast in the famous franchise, Amandla describes herself as a huge fan of the film and TV show, adding that she’s “very lucky” to get “lost” in the franchise as part of her job.

“I can read, watch, and enjoy Star Wars. It’s my job to get lost in it, I’m very lucky,” he said. “My plan was interrupted by a very different life path, but a plan that I think will be a great blessing.”
