The ‘Jonas Brothers’ singer hit back at his wife’s lawsuit, calling the actress “harsh” for trying to bring their daughter to England permanently.

His representative has released a statement instead, calling the actress a lawsuit in which she accuses Jonas of refusing to hand over the children’s passports and “wrongful” custody of the children.

The statement read, “After several conversations with Sophie, Joe initiated divorce proceedings in Florida, as Florida is the appropriate jurisdiction for the case. Sophie is aware that Joe will file for divorce. The Florida court has already entered an order restraining both parents rather than moving the children. Sophie received this order on September 6, 2023, over two weeks ago.”

The statement also revealed that the couple had a “friendly” meeting last Sunday in New York and their children have been with the actress since the meeting. “Joe’s impression of the meeting was that they had reached an understanding that they would work together toward a good co-parenting arrangement.”

A statement from Jonas’ representatives claimed the singer would be in violation of a Florida court order if she agreed to Turner’s request that their children move to England permanently. It further states that Jonas is looking to co-parent their children as he thinks that the US is their home.

“Joe is looking for a co-parenting partnership with the children so that they are raised by both their mothers and fathers, and is of course also fine with the children being raised in the US and the UK. The children were born in the US and have spent most of their lives in the US. They are American citizens,” the statement said.

In Jonas’ divorce suit against Turner, she lists their daughter Willa and DJ’s primary residence as Miami, Florida, where she and Turner live. The singer filed for divorce on September 5, and, according to legal documents obtained by Explosion“respectfully requests” that she and Turner “establish a parenting plan” and “time-sharing schedule” with their children.

Jonas further slammed Turner’s use of the word “kidnapping” in her lawsuit, claiming that it was “misleading” and an “abuse of the legal system.” He went on to state that their children were not “kidnapped” and are now with their mother.

The “Cake By The Ocean” singer’s statement also claimed that Turner’s only motive for making the allegations about their children was her desire to move their divorce proceedings to the UK

The statement read, “This was an unfortunate legal dispute about a marriage that ended sadly. When language like “kidnapping” is used, it is confusing at best, and an abuse of the legal system at worst. The child was not kidnapped. After being in Joe’s care for the past three months by mutual consent, the children are now with their mother. Sophie made this claim only to move the divorce proceedings to the UK and remove the children from the US permanently.”

Jonas’ statement also addressed recent media reports that seemed to tarnish Turner’s image as a mother, saying the singer never agreed to such messages and that they were not “consistent” with her views.

“Joe has already denied any and all statements allegedly made on his behalf disparaging Sophie. It was made without his consent and inconsistent with his views. It is his wish that Sophie reconsider her harsh legal position and move forward in a more constructive and personal way,” the statement said, concluding that “Jonas’ only concern is the well-being of his children.”
