John Amos’ Son Arrested For Alleged Threats Amid Elder Abuse Scandal

The family drama between John Amos, his daughter Shannon Amos, and his son KC is back in the headlines.

The 80-year-old actor first made headlines last month when his daughter Shannon created a GoFundMe for the actor, who has become known as “America’s Dad” for his portrayal of James Evans Sr. in the CBS series “Good Times.” However, the actor insisted that he was not a victim of elder abuse as he claimed, denying his statement that he was fighting for his life in the ICU.

The GoFundMe has since been taken down and money has been returned to individuals who had contributed as law enforcement officials continue to investigate the matter. However, things changed the other day, when KC was arrested for making threatening allegations against his sister.

John Amos’ son, Kelly C. Amos, known as KC, was arrested for allegedly making threatening statements against his sister, Shannon Amos. In a complaint obtained by People magazine, the 52-year-old man was arrested on Saturday in West Orange, New Jersey. Court filings state that he allegedly threatened to “kill Shannon Amos with the intent to put her in fear of death.”

Court documents reveal that Shannon believed she would go through with this threat. He believes the “immediateness of the threat and the likelihood that it will be carried out” after KC reportedly sent her text messages containing pictures of guns. He said that the message made him “fear for his life.”

In addition to the text messages allegedly about gang affiliation, Shannon claims that KC sent her “threats of violence.” He noted one instance where he sent a video showing him shooting a gun. A message attached to the video is said to say, “will sleep better tonight bro.”

He also reportedly sent a photo of the rifle captioned “that big one could clear a turkey of 3 football fields,” which led him to call authorities, as he was “concerned he might be making threats from text messages and in fear for his life .”

In court filings, Shannon claims that her brother suffers from bipolar disorder and made these threats because he believed he had hired someone to kill him first and responded because he feared for his own life.

In a statement made to Parade on July 19, John Amos’ daughter remains focused on her father and not her brother’s recent arrest. “My family and I continue to support and fight to properly care for my father.”

He added, “Despite the false accusations and defamatory statements made against me, I remain committed to ensuring that he receives the best medical care. John Amos may be known as ‘America’s Dad’, but to me, he is my father.”

However, in a video posted on KC’s Instagram page, John Amos claimed that his daughter was the “prime suspect” in the elder abuse allegations, making it difficult for fans to know who to believe.

“I am an 83-year-old man. And I have two children. My son is here with me in the hospital in Memphis, he is at my bedside. And I’m not in the hospital as a result of anything that happened recently,” John said in the video. “Besides the fact that, about a month ago, I was hospitalized because I had water retention and some other issues, all of which have been corrected, or at least addressed.”

He went on to say that his “main issue” was with Shannon, adding, “who I feel has taken advantage of me and he would be the prime suspect if you will.” The actor later said, “He is what I consider my elder abuse.”

“We take criminal allegations seriously. We can confirm that an allegation has been made to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office that Mr. Amos could be the victim of a crime,” the release continued, putting “could be” in bold. “We are thoroughly investigating the allegations and have consulted with our partners at the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Human Services. We have also been in contact with Mr Amos and his lawyer.”

“As with any potential criminal investigation, we are unable to provide any additional comment on the case or the investigation,” the statement added. “We have received questions from media around the country and this will be our statement until we are in a position to release additional information.”
