Career
Astin began his acting career in the theater. He moved to New York hoping to make a professional breakthrough. In those idealistic years, he had to take menial jobs to keep himself afloat. He was a sweeper at an ‘Off-Broadway theater that aired the New York classic ‘The Threepenny Opera.’ John Astin joined the show’s founding cast in 1954, just a few years after moving to New York. He was cast in the second season of the show in 1955 and remained until December 1961.
While continuing his career in ‘Broadway’ and ‘Off-Broadway’ plays, Astin worked as a voice artist for cartoons and TV commercials.
