Before making a successful career in TV John Chatterton worked as a commercial driver. He was a member of an expedition to Ireland on a technical diving trip to see the legendary RMS Lusitania in 1994. Later he was also the person who reached a depth of 400 feet to use rebreather diving technology on the wreck of HMHS Britannic.

It is found near Kea Island in Greece. Later John Chatterton was the only American to visit the Struma shipwreck on a British expedition sponsored by the United States Holocaust Museum and Yad Vashem. It is a deep sea expedition in the Black Sea located near Istanbul.

This John Chatterton dive was filmed in a documentary called Struma on HBO. John Chatterton is also the man who made 160+ dives to the famous Andrea Doria wreck located south of Nantucket in the North Atlantic. John Chatterton has many records to his name.

In 2005, John decided to go on a historic expedition to visit the shipwreck of the RMS Titanic. They went 12,500 feet in the MIR submarine.
