Speaking on the “Armchair Expert” podcast, Stamos discussed with host Dax Shepard how challenging it was to support Loughlin because of the public’s opinion of her since the college admissions scandal.

“We talked yesterday about you. It’s something you say about how you hate it when people bring it up because if you defend it, then people get mad,” the 59-year-old said on Monday’s episode of the podcast.

He added, “If you don’t defend him, then you feel bad because he’s a great person.”

For his part, Stamos believes that Loughlin has shown remorse for his involvement in the scandal. He also stated that the actress has made several returns and therefore should be cut a little.

At the height of the admissions scandal, Stamos told GQ that he was struggling to come to terms with Loughlin’s alleged role in the widespread fraud.

“I’ll tell you one thing that’s weird is: I honestly can’t think of it. It doesn’t make sense,” he told men’s magazine at the time, per US Weekly.

The Emmy Award winner now seems to have some clarity on the scandal, as she insists that Loughlin was unaware of much of the process involved in trying to gain illegal admission for her daughters, Bella, 24, and Olivia Jade, 23, into the University of Southern California.

“I was going to say this, and he said I could. He’s not really an architect of any kind — he’s in the background. He doesn’t know what’s going on.”

In 2019, the “Domestic Christmas” star and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, were indicted along with several individuals involved in the scandal. Although they initially pleaded not guilty to the fraud charges, in May 2020, they agreed to a plea deal and served two months and five months in prison, respectively.

The plea agreement also requires Loughlin to pay a $150,000 fine and participate in 100 hours of community service after his jail time, all of which the “90210” alum has completed.

Since leaving prison, Loughlin has been working hard to navigate her acting career back to where it was after it suffered a major setback in recent years.

She was brought on to star as Abigail Staton in the second season of the spin-off series “When Hope Calls,” a role she first played in the parent series, “When Calls the Heart,” before being dropped amid the scandal.

The actress will also play the lead role in the upcoming January release “Fall Into Winter.” The rom-com centers on her character Keely, who learns that Brooks, her high school rival, bought half of the family’s candy store from her brother.

With no clear way out of the deal, the pair are forced to hang out with each other and end up building an unexpected relationship.
