John Stamos Gets Emotional As Son Billy Marks 1st Day Of Kindergarten: ‘I’m Not Crying’

American actor John Stamos is going limp as his only son Billy continues his first day at kindergarten.

Billy was born in April 2018 to Stamos and his wife Caitlin McHugh, 22 years his junior and whom he married in February of the same year after two years of dating.

As little Billy marked his first day of kindergarten, the “ER” actor couldn’t help but share the happy news with fans while feeling sentimental about the milestone, given the two’s close relationship.

On Stamos’ Instagram Story, he announced his son’s latest achievement using a cute photo taken on the page. Billy was caught from behind, bent down to pet their black dog and close to the black SUV. He is dressed practically in shorts, a short-sleeved shirt, socks, and shoes while also carrying a blue patterned backpack.

“First day of kindergarten with @poshpeanut thx,” the “Big Hospital” actress wrote on the other side of the post, adding, “I didn’t cry, you cried.”

Stamos never shies away from raving about his son whenever possible and even revealed last year what the boy prefers to call him.

In the October 12, 2022 episode of “Live! With Kelly and Ryan,” the “Full House” star told hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos about how well he’s adjusting to being a dad, a role the presenters felt agreed with him.

Ripa said, “I have to say that of all the variations of John Stamos that I’ve known over the years, watching you become a dad is my favorite.” Stamos went on to reveal that he cried a lot with Billy before describing the youngster as the light of his and his wife’s life.

Talking about his son was a joy for the 60-year-old as he spilled more, revealing the “new thing” Billy was most passionate about at the time. She mentioned that the toddler was fascinated by the word “poop” and mentioned it frequently, even in their daily conversations.

“The new thing is that she likes to say ‘shit’ all the time,” the “Bye Bye Birdie” star shared. “I’m trying to teach him knock-knock jokes,” and he keeps finding ways to get the word in. [He goes,] ‘knock, knock?’ ‘Who’s there?’ ‘Excrement.'”

Stamos added that Billy often says “Hi poo” despite trying to tell him that the word isn’t quite right. In his words: “I said, ‘Well, it’s not appropriate to say ‘poop’ at school or talk about poo at school. He said, ‘Well, what if I go to poo school?’ He’s smart.”

She then recounted the moment she FaceTimed her son, and the words came up again but differently, directed at her. The “Fuller House” actress explained that while saying goodnight to Billy, she told him to look at the moon. Even though he wasn’t home with the boy that night, he promised to do the same.

Recalling that night, Stamos continued, “And then he said, ‘Dad, I can see your eyes on the moon,’ and I said, ‘Son, I can see your eyes, too.’

The ever-loving father described the moment as “beautiful,” prompting him to tell his son, “I love you, Billy,” and in return, the preschooler heartily said, “I love you, poopy.”

The ‘You’ Actor Expresses Gratitude for Being a Parent in His 5Os

Stamos has often had a few things to say about starting his fatherhood journey in his 50s, admitting he’s truly “grateful” to be an old dad.

In an interview with TODAY, the “Big Shot” actor revealed, “I’m so thankful to the gods or to the universe or whatever that I’m an older father. I couldn’t have dealt with it sooner.” The “Born to Ride” star also admitted that he’s wanted children all his life and always expected to be a dad because he had TV experience with the role.

“It is the greatest blessing in my life,” he said. “I can’t imagine my life without him, but it’s challenging to get it right.”

Despite having someone to take care of Billy while Stamos and his wife are busy with the show, she knows how much work it takes to raise a child, especially with “the way the world is today.”

However, she couldn’t have picked a better time to become a parent because she is “mature enough” and enjoying every moment of parenthood.
