Johnny Depp Moves After Defamation Trial

Johnny Depp, known for his role as Jack Sparrow in all five “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, as well as for his roles in various other films such as “Edward Scissorhands,” “Alice In Wonderland,” “Secret Window,” and more, has been in the news of late, mainly due to his claims against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, 35, whom he sued for defamation after she wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post, in which she referred to herself as “a public figure who represents domestic abuse.”
Due to Heard’s allegations, Depp’s career has taken several hits. First, Warner Bros.’ “The Fantastic Beasts” franchise dropped the actor from the film and recast him with Mads Mikkelson. Later, the Walt Disney Company fired Depp from his iconic role as Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.

Although Depp’s trial in the UK was unsuccessful — a judge ruled that The Sun was correct in reporting that Depp was violent towards Heard three months after the trial began — his trial in the United States against ex-wife Amber Heard was a triumph. A jury found Amber Heard defamed Johnny Depp by publicly accusing him of domestic abuse, and found Depp proved Heard lied about her allegations.
Johnny Depp’s lawyer, Camille Vasquez, explained why the US case was a win and the UK case wasn’t when speaking to the “Today Show”, saying, “It’s a different process. And also, Mr. Depp, and Ms. Heard, in this case, are involved parties.”
“They have different disclosure obligations…and the overwhelming evidence presented in this case in Virginia far exceeds what was presented in the UK. And we believe the jury can get it right,” he continued.
Although this is seen as a victory, Depp will not return to the sixth installment of “Pirates of the Caribbean”. However, the actor is moving forward with his life as he is reportedly dating his married lawyer, Joelle Rich, from his UK lawsuit against The Sun
