Johnny Depp Open To Returning To Disney Following Betrayal Over Amber Heard Trial

Johnny Depp is known for his many roles in both television and film, but one of his most iconic characters is Captain Jack Sparrow.

Depp portrayed Jack Sparrow in all five “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, including “Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl” (2003), “Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” (2006), “Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End” (2007), “Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” (2011), and “Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” (2017).

Due to allegations by his ex-wife, Amber Heard, Disney fired the actor and announced Depp would not return to the sixth installment of “Pirates of the Caribbean”.

Depp also confirmed during his testimony at the trial that he will not return as Jack Sparrow – however, new sources are coming forward saying that Depp may be open to working with Disney again under certain circumstances.

Sources have come forward, close to the 60-year-old “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor, admitting that despite the betrayal Depp felt by Disney for the defamation trial, he could work with Disney again in the future.

“Anything goes,” the source told PEOPLE regarding whether Depp will work with The Walt Disney Company again. “If it’s the right project, he’ll do it,” the source confirmed.

While the source did not provide any further details, Disney Studio Motion Picture Production president Sean Bailey recently discussed the future of “Pirates of the Caribbean” and if Johnny Depp will return to the franchise as the iconic Jack Sparrow.

“We think we have a really good and interesting story that respects the films that have come before but also has something new to say,” he said when speaking on the next installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.

When asked about Johnny Depp’s status for a possible film, Bailey said that Disney is “not committed at this point.”

This news surprised many because during the defamation trial of his ex-wife, Amber Heard, Heard’s lawyer, Ben Rottenborn, asked Depp while he was on the witness stand, “The fact is, Mr. Depp, if Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on earth will make you go back and work with Disney on a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie? Really?”

Depp confirmed he would not return as Jack Sparrow while on the stand, saying, “That’s right, Mr. Rottenborn.”

Depp’s lawyer Jessica Meyers wants to confirm with the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor if he will return to the franchise during the transition. “My feeling is that these characters should be able to say the goodbyes they deserve. There’s a way to end a franchise like that… I plan to continue until it’s time to stop,” Depp said during the deposition.

Also, during the transition, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor explained that he learned that he had been fired and would be recast as Jack Sparrow from a news article, which quoted a Disney executive and which was released just days after the Op Heard -Ed was published in The Washington Post.

Depp testified, “I don’t quite understand how after such a long relationship, and quite a successful one for Disney, all of a sudden I’m guilty until proven innocent.”
