Jon Lovitz says antisemitism he’s experienced in Hollywood ‘is from other Jews’

Amid rising antisemitism following the October 7 attacks on Israel, Jewish actor and comedian Jon Lovitz revealed Hollywood has its own antisemitism problem.

“All the antisemitism I’ve ever experienced in Hollywood has been from other Jews,” Lovitz told Fox News Digital in an interview.

Lovitz begins by explaining the origins of Jews in Hollywood and when Jewish immigrants from Europe like his grandparents came to America, they were largely excluded from the most profitable industries but one “cursed business” that many ventured into was Nickelodeon, which soon grew became the film industry that created Hollywood. He detailed that in order to assimilate to America, many Jewish actors and filmmakers changed their names, citing Tony Curtis (born Bernard Schwartz) and John Garfield (born Jacob Garfinkely) among examples.

Lovitz later revealed how he had “lost a part” of his Jewish heritage, pointing to his insults from the 2000 Mike Nichols film “What Planet Are You From?”

“I was supposed to do a movie with Garry Shandling and Garry- we’re good friends. They had a script reading, and he said, ‘This is your part, it’s a great part.’ Then they started making movies, and I wasn’t in it. It was Greg Kinnear,” Lovitz said. “And I know Greg. Greg’s a great guy, a good actor, man, you know. He is great. But I said, ‘What happened? I thought you said the part was mine.’ And my manager Brad Grey, a Jew who produced the film, said ‘Well… [Nichols] feel you and Garry are you too similar. And I know Garry. I went, ‘I’m not like Garry.’ I go, ‘what are you- what? What are you talking about?’ He goes, ‘Well, you know.’ I go, ‘No, what?’ He goes ‘You know, Jews. You are both Jewish. I said, ‘What?!’ And this comes from Mike Nichols, a Jew.”

“And I’ve just had other people where people say antisemitic things to me, and they’re Jewish and in show business, and it’s disgusting,” he added.

The “SNL” alum went on to claim she has never experienced antisemitism from any of her non-Jewish friends in Hollywood, calling it “very strange.”

Lovitz suggested the “self-hating Jew” trope is prevalent in Hollywood but told Fox News Digital “the best example” is Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt) regarding his opposition to Israel, calling it “disgusting.”

“All my Jewish friends, like, they go, Bernie Sanders, self-hating Jew. You know, what’s wrong with this guy? And that’s what happened. ‘Oh, that’s not true.’ Yes, it is. Yes you. ‘I don’t like it when people make money. It’s not right. They only have to make so many. And then enough is enough.’ Well, you have three houses. You should only have one. ‘That’s none of your business.’”
