Jonathan Majors Breaks Silence After Being Found Guilty Of Assault: ‘I Was Absolutely Shocked’

Former Marvel star Jonathan Majors has spoken out for the first time after being found guilty of assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari.

Jabbari accused Majors, her then-boyfriend of causing her injuries during an argument in the car after he tried to gain access to her phone to view text messages she allegedly received from a woman.

In a new interview, the actor revealed that he was “shocked” by the guilty verdict, which could land him in jail for a year.

During a recent chat on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Majors opened up about his assault trial and finding him guilty of two of the four charges against him.

Majors revealed that he was “shocked” by the jury’s verdict but admitted that he could not claim he had nothing to do with Jabbari’s injuries, which he suffered after their fight in a Cadillac Escalade on March 25.

He said, “I shouldn’t be in the car. I shouldn’t have gotten out of the relationship. I shouldn’t be in that relationship. If I hadn’t been in the car, none of this would have happened.”

When an interviewer asked him if he was responsible for what happened, but not the injury, Majors replied, “Can’t say that. There were no injuries.”

The “Creed III” actor shared how surprised he was by the verdict, hinting that the evidence was in his favor.

“I was really shocked and scared,” he said, per Hollywood Reporter. “How is that possible? Based on the evidence, based on the prosecution’s evidence, not to mention our evidence.”

One of the highlights of Majors’ trial was an audio recording of her yelling at her ex, Jabbari, to be like the wives of great people like former President Barack Obama’s wife, Michelle Obama, and Martin Luther King’s wife, Coretta Scott King.

Speaking about the shocking footage, the actor said, “I’m trying to give an analogy of what I aspire to. This great man, Martin, President Obama. I need her, in that case, Grace, to make the same sacrifices I did.”

He later stated that he finally broke his silence on the decision because he felt “like it was time” for him to speak out.

“A lot has happened,” Majors said. “In my personal life, in my career, in culture. It’s about responsibility and coming forward and being brave and giving my part in the story.”

Majors will likely appeal his guilty verdict before his sentencing. The actor’s lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, issued a statement expressing disappointment at the decision and stating that they plan to clear the actor’s name.

“It is clear that the jury did not believe Grace Jabbari’s story about what happened in the SUV because they found that Mr. Majors did not intentionally cause her any injuries. We are grateful for that,” Chaudhry said at the time. “We are disappointed, however, that despite not believing Ms. Jabbari, the jury nevertheless found that Mr. Majors was somehow reckless when he attacked her.”

Jabbari, Majors’ ex-girlfriend, did not speak directly about his guilty verdict or his court victory. However, the 31-year-old shared a message on his Instagram story shortly after the hearing, thanking the domestic violence charity for supporting him through the entire legal process.

He wrote, “For my birthday, if you want…a donation to sffny, a charity that helped me a lot this year, is the best gift you can give. Thank you so much sffny, and everyone…for everything.”

After Majors’ guilty verdict, the charity released a statement, saying how “proud” they were to have “represented” the professional dancer.

“Sanctuary for Families is proud to have represented Ms. Jabbari throughout this process and will continue to support her on her journey to justice and healing,” the organization said.

Major sentencing has been scheduled for February 6.
