Former Marvel star Jonathan Majors was found guilty of two of four misdemeanor counts of assault and harassment.
Following the jury’s verdict, the actor’s legal team released a statement, saying they were disappointed with the verdict but hoped to clear Majors’ name. Instead, the DA’s office has praised the verdict, claiming that the trial exposed a cycle of abuse.
The major sentence has now been set for next year, February 6.

Shortly after Majors was found guilty of assault and harassment, his lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, released a statement, expressing disappointment at the verdict and stating that they will take their grievances to court to clear the actor’s name.
“It is clear that the jury did not believe Grace Jabbari’s story about what happened in the SUV because they found that Mr. Majors did not intentionally cause her any injuries. We are grateful for that,” Chaudhry said on Monday. “We are disappointed, however, that despite not believing Ms. Jabbari, the jury nevertheless found that Mr. Majors was somehow reckless when he attacked her.”
The lawyer continued, per Deadline“Mr. Majors is grateful to God, his family, his friends, and his fans for their love and support during these horrible eight months. Mr. Majors still believes in the process and hopes to fully clear his name.”
During the trial, Chaudhry accused Majors’ ex-girlfriend of being the aggressor in the argument that took place on March 25. He claimed Jabbari did not want revenge for Majors’ alleged cheating and infidelity.

Unlike Majors’ team, the prosecution appeared very pleased with the verdict, praising the jury and claiming that the evidence presented during the trial revealed a “cycle of psychological and emotional abuse” by Majors.
District Attorney Alvin Bragg said in a statement, “At the Manhattan DA’s Office, we are committed to putting survivors at the center of all our work. The evidence presented throughout this trial illustrates the cycle of psychological and emotional abuse, and the escalating pattern of coercion that is all too common in many cases of intimate partner violence that we see every day.”
He continued, “Today, the jury determined that a pattern of abuse and coercion culminated in Mr. Majors assaulting and harassing his girlfriend. We thank the jury for their service and the survivor for having the courage to tell her story despite having to relive her trauma in the stands.”

Speak to Daily Beastattorney and director of the Incarcerated Victims of Gender Violence Initiative, Ross Kramer, also expressed gratitude for the hearing, claiming Jabbari was honest when testifying and noting that more victims of domestic abuse are still too afraid to come forward.
He said, “Ms. Jabbari testified openly and honestly, although recalling this traumatic event on the witness stand was clearly painful.” The lawyer added, “Unfortunately, for every survivor like Ms. Jabbari who comes forward to hold their abusers accountable, there are many more who believe they cannot. We hope his actions will inspire survivors to speak their truth and seek justice.”
Team Jonathan Majors Brands Grace Jabbari A ‘Liar’

During closing arguments, Majors’ team called his girlfriend a liar who told “white lies and beautiful lies.” His lawyer, Chaudhry, claims he made up stories of abuse to implicate the former Marvel star whom he allegedly cheated on.
“They buy his white lies, they buy his big lies… Who else buys his lies? This prosecutor bought Grace’s white lies, her big lies, and all her pretty little lies,” Chaudhry said last Friday.
He spoke of Majors’ driver, Naveed Sarwar, who testified that Jabbari was the aggressor in the incident. The driver accused the 30-year-old dancer of hitting on Majors and claimed that the actor did nothing but try to “get rid of” his ex-girlfriend.

“[Jabbari] was shouting [Majors], and they argued. I have feelings [Jabbari] has hit [Majors] earlier, the way he was fighting and the noise he made,” Sarwar told the court on Monday, December 11.
Speaking about her story, Chaudry told jurors, “You heard from the driver who told you that Grace had been attacking Jonathan all night, that Jonathan was asking to stop the car, that Jonathan was trying to get rid of her, that she was trying to get him to leave her alone.”

Before Majors’ guilty verdict, he had already started losing major deals due to the allegations alone. Majors has been dropped from the upcoming film adaptation of Walter Mosley’s 2004 novel, “The Man in My Basement,” a project he is reportedly set to executive produce.
The “Creed III” star is no longer being considered for a biopic about the late musician Otis Redding. It was also reported that Majors will no longer star in an advertising campaign for the Texas Rangers MLB team.
Now, with him being accused of assault and harassment, the movie giant Marvel has officially cut ties with the actor. In the meantime, it remains to be determined what will happen to the Marvel Majors project and if the actor’s role as Kang The Conqueror will be reprised.
