Jonathan Majors Trial Day 11: Jury Begins Deliberations After Closing Arguments

The end of Jonathan’s Marvel star course assault trial draws to a close as jurors begin deliberations Thursday after closing arguments from both sides. The defense and prosecutors rested their case Wednesday following cross-examination and the deposition of several witnesses, including alleged abuse victim Grace Jabbari, who testified for four consecutive days.

Majors, facing up to a year in prison if convicted of assault and harassment, did not testify in the domestic violence trial. He has been in court since the start of the trial, with his girlfriend of several months, actress Meagan Good, by his side.

In a shocking move, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office authorized the release of multiple video and audio evidences to the public. It includes footage of Jabbari chasing Majors following an alleged car dispute and body-worn camera clips of Jabbari lying on the floor of his and Majors’ dressing room the day after the alleged assault incident.

A jury of six New Yorkers has begun deliberations to decide whether actor Majors is guilty or innocent of assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend, Jabbari. Discussions began after closing arguments from Majors’ defense team and prosecutors.

During closing arguments, Majors’ defense attorney referred to the racial undertones in the criminal trial of a “black man” accused of beating a white woman, telling jurors that his “fear of what happens when a black man in America calls 911 comes true, and now we are here.”

follow Court NewsPriya Chaudhry, one of Majors’ lawyers, argued before the jury that the Loki actor was being charged “because the police make decisions on sight.”

“They look at Mr. Majors and they make a decision. They decided who was the victim and who was the criminal, and then they asked Grace if Mr. Majors had done this to her,” Chaudhry said.

He continued, “They bought her white lies, they bought her big lies… Who else bought her lies? These prosecutors bought Grace’s white lies, her big lies and all her pretty little lies.”

Chaudry brought witnesses to the allegedly violent altercation, Majors’ driver, Naveed Sarwar, testified. The driver accused Jabbari of being the aggressor in the altercation and claimed Majors did nothing but try to “get rid of” his ex-girlfriend.

“[Jabbari] was shouting [Majors] and they quarreled. I have feelings [Jabbari] has hit [Majors] earlier, the way he was fighting and the noise he made,” Sarwar told the court on Monday, December 11.

Speaking about her story, Chaudry told jurors, “You heard from the driver who told you that Grace had been attacking Jonathan all night, that Jonathan was asking to stop the car, that Jonathan was trying to get rid of her, that she was trying to get him to leave her alone.”

Majors’ attorney accused Jabbari of causing his own injuries, highlighting the 30-year-old dancer’s night after an alleged fight in March.

They claim that her injuries may have been caused by Jabbari falling drunk and taking sleeping pills in the apartment she shared with her ex-boyfriend on the night of the incident.

“He took revenge by partying and putting champagne on the man he was mad at,” Chaudhry told the jury, per Court Newswhile displaying images of Jabbari at a nightclub where he can be seen drinking champagne and mingling with strangers.

The attorney then told the jury that the prosecution failed to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Majors was the cause behind Jabbari’s injuries.

“The video proves that’s not true. Their own witnesses proved that it was not true. The medical evidence proves that’s not true,” Chaudhry said, adding, “You can’t believe anything Grace says about what happened in that car, let alone everything.”

In his closing argument, Chaudhry also brought up the alleged lack of blood in Jabbari’s hair, asking jurors to take that into account when determining whether Majors caused the wound behind his ex-girlfriend’s ear.

“There was no blood in Grace’s hair,” Chaudhry said. “There was no blood on Grace’s finger because she kept touching her ear. No blood anywhere. Grace bends reality and these prosecutors bend themselves to compete.”

The lawyer appeared emotional as he closed his argument, stating, “You are here to end this nightmare for Jonathan Majors. You are here to see the obvious. Jonathan Majors is innocent.”

Following that, Majors hugged Chaudry as he returned to the defense table.

In their closing arguments, the prosecution, led by Assistant District Attorney Kelli Galloway, asserted that the actor assaulted Jabbari and evidence was found in the footage of him allegedly trying to push his ex-girlfriend into a vehicle during their argument.

“Because we have video showing the defendant repeatedly pushing Ms. Jabbari against the black Escalade, we know the defendant is guilty of assault in the third degree,” Galloway said.

He disputed Majors’ team’s counterargument that Jabbari was the aggressor and he was the victim, saying, “You don’t see any evidence that the defendant was assaulted.”

The lawyer told the jury, “What this really boils down to is four simple words: control, dominance, manipulation and abuse. The tactics used by those who commit domestic violence against a partner, against Grace.”

Galloway brought up an old text exchange between the former couple, claiming that it shows how Majors forced Jabbari to do what he wanted during their relationship.

According to the prosecution, the attack on March 25 was not an isolated incident in their relationship but the latest escalation in what they allege was a pattern of abuse by Majors against Jabbari. Throughout the trial, Jabbari recounted past events between her and Majors, in which she claimed the actor emotionally abused her.

Majors, who chose not to testify, has since pleaded not guilty to all charges. But if the jury finds him guilty, the actor could face at least one year in prison.
