Joran van der Sloot’s extradition temporarily delayed after shocking Holloway confession

Convicted killer Joran van der Sloot, who confessed to killing Natalee Holloway in 2005 in Aruba, has been delayed in his extradition back to Peru because of mechanical problems with his plane.

“The extradition of Joran van der Sloot to Peru has been delayed due to mechanical problems with the plane. The US Marshals Service will coordinate with Peruvian Officials to reschedule the extradition. No additional information is available,” the US Marshals Service said Monday, Fox News has learned.

Van der Sloot has been temporarily extradited to the US to face charges linked to Holloway’s disappearance. He is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence for killing Stephany Flores in 2010 in Lima, Peru.

He admitted this month to killing Holloway and disposing of her body.

Holloway’s loss in 2005 attracted international and national attention for 18 years.

His confession came as he also pleaded guilty to charges of trying to extort money from Holloway’s mother in exchange for information on the whereabouts of the missing woman’s body.

Van der Sloot was sentenced to 20 years in prison in the US for extortion and wire fraud. Under his plea agreement, his sentence will run concurrently with Peru’s sentence.

He cannot be prosecuted in the US because the statute of limitations has expired on the killings in Aruba. The statute of limitations for homicide in Aruba is 12 years.

“I completely smashed his head with it,” he said, according to a transcript of his confession.

“His face was basically, you know, falling apart,” he added. “Even though it was dark, I could see his face collapse.”

He then allegedly pushed her body into the sea.

“Today, I can tell you with certainty after eighteen years, that as far as I’m concerned, Natalee’s case is solved,” Beth Holloway said in a statement this month.”

It’s over. Joran van der Sloot is no longer a suspect in my daughter’s murder. He is the killer.”
