Hollywood veteran Julia Roberts believes that rom-coms were not properly recognized in the past.
The actress has appeared in several iconic films over the years, proving herself not only as the queen of rom-coms, but also as a versatile actress whose abilities span other genres. He recently said that audiences at the time took for granted the work that went into creating a romantic comedy.

Ahead of her upcoming film debut “Ticket to Paradise,” Roberts stated in a recent interview with New York Times that he felt fans took for granted the hard work the actors put in to produce a successful rom-com back in the day.

“I think we didn’t appreciate the romantic comedies we had back then,” he told the publication. “You don’t see all the effort and strings of puppets because it’s fun and sweet and people are laughing and kissing and being naughty.”
The 64-year-old starred in cult favorites including “Pretty Woman,” “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” and “Notting Hill.” His extraordinary skills have earned him the title of one of Hollywood’s most reliable stars in various genres, including romantic comedies, dramas, thrillers and action films. In the interview, the actor went into more detail about “Ticket to Heaven.” He revealed how he felt when he got the script for the film, saying the narrative felt different and more fun.
“It’s nice to read something that’s age appropriate, where the humor makes sense, and I appreciate and understand what these guys are going through,” the 54-year-old said. “That’s what people want to see, your connection to a job. They want to see the heart space you have for it.”

Although it’s been more than a decade since she last portrayed a character in a rom-com, the actress shared that she still holds the genre in high esteem.
“This is a genre that I love to be in and watch, and I think it’s hard to get it right,” Roberts said. “There’s really simple math, but how do you make it special? How do you keep people interested when you can predict what’s going to happen?”
