Kamala Harris has ‘rabbit ears’ for detecting criticism, overly sensitive, colleague says: new book

Vice President Kamala Harris has “rabbit ears” for criticism, according to a new book that suggests she has paper-thin skin and is extremely sensitive to rejection.

In “The Last Politician,” to be released Tuesday, author Franklin Foer writes that Harris, 58, is so sensitive that his White House colleagues have compared him to a frightened rabbit.

‘”Harris had what one friend described as ‘rabbit ears,’” Foer wrote in his book.

“Whenever there was the slightest bit of criticism of him — whether it was in the West Wing or in the press — he seemed immediately aware of it,” he wrote in a quote first reported on Fox News.

“Instead of shrugging it off, he wanted to know who was talking bad about him and what they were saying,” Foer wrote, noting that when Harris “read a devastating story” on a news website “about the mismanagement of his team,” the vice president “responded with a chilling simply an assistant he suspected of working with the reporter.”

“He let the criticism guide him,” added Foer, a writer for The Atlantic magazine.

“Instead of sticking to the Central American assignment, he seems to accept the conventional wisdom about it. It was a wasted gig, so he let it fall by the wayside, missing out on a meaningful breakthrough.”

A surprising 49 percent of registered voters have a negative view of Harris, with only 32 percent viewing him positively, according to a June NBC News poll.

Meanwhile, Biden doesn’t seem to trust Harris with important issues, according to the book.

President Biden “treats [Harris] with all due respect, [but] he simply did not give him the substantive role he played in the Obama administration.”

Biden “helped close a gap in Obama’s resume” but the president “doesn’t need Harris the same way Obama needs Biden,” according to Foer.

“Ron Klain assumed the role of Harris’ guide,” Foer wrote, referring to Biden’s former chief of staff.

“He considers himself the building’s resident expert on the vice presidency, having worked for Al Gore and Joe Biden when they sat in the second chair.”

“But he struggled to help him productively. He felt that Harris continued to make life excessively difficult by imposing all kinds of restrictions on himself,” Foer said.

“He told her that he didn’t want to deal with women’s issues or anything to do with race,” she wrote.

“He wants his office to be majority female — and to have a black woman as chief of staff.”

Foer added that, to Klain’s “ears, he created too many rules, and they made it difficult for him to find his footing.”
