Kandi Burruss Gushes About Marriage With Her ‘Teammate In Life,’ Todd Tucker

“Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Kandi Burruss emphasized the importance of effective communication in her marriage to Todd Tucker. The couple met each other in 2011 on the set of the Bravo show. Although Burruss is the star of the show, Tucker is one of its producers.

On Saturday, Burruss attended the Ebony Power 100 Gala, held in Los Angeles, and shed some light on her relationship with her producer husband, Tucker. While talking to People’s Magazinehe revealed that they practice great communication and understand each other deeply.

“Just great communication and having fun together,” Burruss said. “We have a real understanding of each other.” The reality star also talked about their close relationship at work, and while it doesn’t work for a lot of people, it does work for them. Burruss admits that the reason is that they keep each other “motivated.”

She explained, “He pushes me in ways I can’t say I’ve never experienced before being with him. I really feel like he is my teammate in life.”

Another contributor to their happy marriage is their teamwork, born of strong support for each other. The reality star revealed that they have similar “wants and needs” as well as careers. “We had all these dreams, and sometimes, I’d be outside the box, but he’d still say, ‘Okay honey, let’s do it,'” Burruss said.

He added that while some women had to give up their ambitions and desire to play a supporting role in their husbands’ lives, no such thing was imposed on him.

The reality star continued, “I think that’s what makes it work because sometimes I feel like, especially when you’re a woman with dreams and goals, you don’t always meet a guy who’s going to support your dreams and goals and keep pushing you.”

In a 2020 interview with Essence’s “Yes, Girl!” podcast, Burrus also attributes the success of his and Tucker’s marriage to good communication. He revealed that the marriage was the longest he had ever been in a relationship and that he was not tired of the producer.

The “Xscape” singer said, “We’ve been together for about six years now, and this is the longest relationship I’ve ever been in. I didn’t have many long relationships when I was younger. Burruss revealed that even though he can achieve a lot own thing, working with her husband “rejected me 100 thousand times.”

“I am [don’t] tired of him,” continued the “RHOA” star. “I think in other situations, I’ve lost interest, or maybe they’re a cheater, you know. I don’t tolerate cheating. So our communication is to the point, and I’ve never tired of talking to him, so I think that’s what automatically made me like, ok, I can do this! Sex life is good too!”

After their first meeting in 2011, Burruss and Tucker got engaged two years later and, in 2014, tied the knot. The couple have welcomed two children, six-year-old Ace, and two-year-old Blaze. They also have older children from their previous relationships with Burruss’ daughter Kaela, 26, and Riley, 20.

The couple has opened various businesses and achieved impressive heights. Burruss became popular as part of the girl group “Xscape” in 1992 and won a Grammy for her contribution to “No Scrubs.” In 2000, the TLC hit was awarded Best R&B Song.
