Kansas City Chiefs fan ‘was asleep on the couch’ for 2 days while friends lay dead in his backyard, lawyer says

A soccer fan who hosted a party that ended with three of his friends dead in his Kansas City rental home “slept on the couch” for two days while loved ones tried to contact him, his attorney said.

David Harrington, 37, Ricky Johnson, 38, and Clayton McGeeney, 36 had gathered at a house rented by Jordan Willis on the evening of January 7 to watch their favorite football team play their last game of the regular season.

The three visitors were found dead in the NW 83rd Terrace home two days later, and only after the fiance of one of the victims broke into her home and found the bodies, according to a friend’s Facebook post.

“He is sleeping. He fell asleep on the couch. The last memory he had was of them leaving [out] front door, he didn’t know what was going on, um, with them, until you know, when the police came Tuesday night to his house,” Willis’ attorney, John Picerno told The Post about the Missouri mystery.

He added that Kansas City investigators have said there was no foul play and are not investigating his client in connection with the strange and unexplained death.

“They have said that there is no foul play, they do not suspect it, and it is not considered a homicide investigation,” the lawyer said.

“This case is 100% NOT being investigated as a homicide,” Kansas City Police Captain Jake Becchina told Fox News Digital.

Kansas City police did not respond to a request for comment from The Post.

Kansas City Chiefs fan and HIV scientist Jordan Willis hosted a party on Jan. 7 that ended with his friends dead outside his rental home, according to his attorney. GitHub

A pending toxicology report will shed more light on the incident, especially since the men were found outside while their car and Willis’ warm home were just yards away.

“It’s really cool. You know, they can go out to get some fresh air, they can go out to smoke a cigarette,” Picerno speculated on Tuesday.

“Maybe the bathroom is full, they can go out to the bathroom, after watching football all day, it’s late at night.”

Temperatures on Jan. 7 and 8 mostly stayed in the low 30s, before plunging into the teens on the evening of Jan. 9, according to Weather Underground.

Picerno insisted that his client – who works as an HIV vaccine development scientist – would do anything in his power to help Harrington, Johnson and McGeeney.

“They’re his friends… They hang out all the time, two of them he went to high school with,” Picerno said, adding that Willis bought them all tickets to next weekend’s Chiefs playoff game against Miami.

“If he could help them, he would help them if they needed help. He didn’t know they were there.”

When asked if there was a possibility that the man had used drugs and suffered an overdose, Picerno did not rule it out.

“There is an opportunity for everything,” he said.

Willis could not be reached for comment and has moved out of the rental property and scrubbed his social media accounts after the tragedy, the Daily Mail reported.

Friends of the victim have taken to social media to suggest that Willis is partially responsible for the strange death, which seems to raise as many questions as the frozen corpse found in the latest season of “True Detective.”

“This guy was in his house alive while my friends were dead in his yard for who knows how long,” Kaylee La Tier wrote in a Facebook post earlier this month.

“They’ve all been hanging out since Sunday’s game. He KNEW people were looking for them. He read the messages of people who were looking for him on Tuesday.

“My husband knocked on the door of his house for 20 [minutes],” La Tier continued.

“My friend knocked on her door and then broke the window and screamed and announced her presence while she was inside and still nothing from her? Then the police came 10 [minutes] then and he comes out nonchalantly in his boxers with an empty wine glass in hand??!

“Nothing adds up. Dave, Clay and Ricky need and deserve justice.”

La Tier did not immediately respond to an interview request from The Post.

Johnson’s niece Stephanie Walling paid tribute to her uncle at a fundraising site set up to help pay for funeral expenses.

“This tragedy has left our family completely devastated and grieving a great loss. Ricky is not only an adored father to his three beautiful daughters, but also a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend.”

One commenter on the page was in disbelief.

“With a friend like that… It doesn’t make sense. My thoughts are with you.”

A celebration of life was held for Harrington during Kansas City’s loss to the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Division Series on Sunday.

Funerals for Johnson and McGeeney are set to be held Friday and Saturday in suburban Missouri.
