Rapper Kanye West is officially into modeling. The school owner and businessman recently opened Balenciaga during their Paris Fashion Week 2023 show. She is supported by her four children, Kylie Jenner, and several other stars, including Doja Cat and Alexa Demie.
Demna Gvasalia, Balenciaga’s creative director and the brains behind the collection, explained why the look was paraded on a mud-filled runway. The rapper later shared a reaction message from designer Betsey Johnson on his Instagram story. Pictures of West on the runway also went viral on Twitter.

West and Demna have been friends for years and even collaborated earlier this year on a utilitarian capsule line for Balenciaga. An online statement explains that the dress is a timeless silhouette that shares the friend’s utilitarian design vision.

Kanye West Makes His Runway Debut

West made his modeling debut by opening Balenciaga’s 2023 Paris Fashion Week show recently. The Yeezy founder wore an all-black, combat-style look with a baseball cap and utility jacket, which featured the word “Safety.”
The Balenciaga show was held at the Parc des Expositions and had a mud theme. The entire runway featured ankle-deep mud and dirt. West’s four children- North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm were present to support their Dad with Kylie Jenner.
Other stars in attendance included singer Doja Cat and actress Alexa Demie. follow Ella, the show also featured supermodels, including Bella Hadid, who sported bruise-themed makeup and a floor-length dress trailed in the mud. Some models have baby carriers strapped to them, carrying Balenciaga dolls.

Collections And Tracks Depicting The Battlefield

Gvasalia, Balenciaga’s creative director, issued a statement explaining that the collection has a personal identity as a “battlefield.”
His statement, which he posted on Instagram, read, “I hate boxes and I hate labels and I hate being labeled and put in a box. Society, the internet and the world in general likes to do that, because it feels safe this way. One has to have the courage and tenacity to truly assume their identity and who they truly are. Every day is a battle to defend this unique identity.”

He continued, “And the more you try to be yourself, the more you get punched in the face … The challenge is to pick yourself up and keep walking towards your true self after you’ve been beaten and knocked down.” Gvasalia explained in his statement that the set is “a metaphor for digging for the truth and being underground.” Adding that, we should “let everyone be who they are” and “make love not war.”

Kanye West’s Runway Debut Makes Betsey Johnson ‘Emotional’

Shortly after the show, West shared her reaction to her first appearance as a model from iconic designer Betsey Johnson. She posted a screenshot of her text with Johnson on her Instagram story. Johnson writes (para Page Six), “I feel a little emotional when you walk. It feels very special.”
West responded to the 80-year-old fashion icon, “After all the battles Although this year has been Pretty amazing I’m emotional too.” Photos from West’s debut also went viral on Twitter, with many fans tweeting about it and some criticizing her outfit and walk.

Kanye West Collaborates With Balenciaga

The “All of the Lights” rapper and Gvasalia have been friends for years, with West publicly supporting the designer since his early days at Vetements. Since Gvasalia took over at Balenciaga, West has almost exclusively worn clothes from the brand. The partners also collaborated on a range of utilitarian capsules earlier this year.
According to the release, the line, titled “Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga,” is a “timeless silhouette translated through the lens of Ye and Demna’s shared vision of utilitarian design.”
After its release, West shared several images of the outfit on his Instagram. They featured wader boots, a silver cinch-waist jumpsuit, gray anoraks, matching trousers, leather trousers, gloves, boots and a large black puffer jacket. The line echoes the clothes West himself wears throughout the years.
