Controversial rapper Kanye West recently admitted to Instagram that he changed his IG handle from “@kanyewest” to “@ye.”
This comes hours after the rapper threatened to close his account with nearly 20 million followers, stating in a chat that he will not be “forced” to use his real name by any platform or “brand.”
Kanye West’s Instagram Handle Is Officially ‘Ye’

West’s Instagram handle finally lives up to his name, “Ye.” In 2021, he announced to the world that he no longer wanted to be referred to as “Kanye West” but instead as “Ye.”
The rapper stated at the time that this was because Ye is “the most commonly used word in the Bible. And in the Bible, it means, ‘You.’ I am all of you.”
West later changed the name for everything associated with it. However, he is clearly having trouble converting it on certain social media platforms such as Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).
On Wednesday, he took to his IG page to state that he would close his account if it continued to reflect his government’s name.

At the time, West shared a post of a chat between him and singer Justin LaBoy, which read: “I closed my Kanye West Instagram account. My name is Ye. No brand or number will force me to call myself what they want me to be.”
The rapper initially captioned the post with a lengthy text, which he later edited, per HipHopDx. West wrote, “Someone has Ye as an account. I would like to have my name so I can change my account to my legal name. No one is bullying anything Not that there is no organizer Not that there is no DSP I don’t care. My name is Ye now. You call me Kanye West then you call me out of my name.”
In a follow-up post, West shared a text with his followers in which LaBoy can be seen reassuring him that Instagram is working on changing his IG handle.
It reads, “Instagram has approved[…]They just walked into the office and called right away.” LaBoy added, “Waiting for the information they need to make it happen today.”

Elaborating, West wrote in the caption of his post: “At this point everyone knows what ‘system’ is a code word for.”
