“It’s a little sexist,” she said, adding that “It paints women as badass, as humorless and uptight, and it paints men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving men. It exaggerates the characters, and I have a hard time with it on some days. I play like a bitch; why is she a killjoy? Why is this the way you portray women? Ninety-eight percent of the time, it’s an amazing experience, but it’s hard for me to like the movie.”

The actor has apologized several times for his comments but believes doing so has done more harm than good to the overall situation.

He stated that by apologizing over and over, he ended up dragging the issue out and turning it on and he should have only apologized once.

“I kept apologizing, which I now realize just kept giving everything. I thought hating myself in front of everyone would make them happy, but actually, it made me weaker in people’s eyes and made me feel weak. The “One for the Money” actor has vowed not to shy away from continuing to speak out on important issues, stating that he will “always stand up for what I believe in,” but said, “airing dirty laundry is unnecessary and will only fuel gossip.”

“For example, I will continue to take a strong stand on long working hours for actors and crew on film sets, because it is not good for people’s mental or physical health. I will not apologize for that stance, and I don’t care if people agree with me or not,” he said.

The experience taught Heigl a valuable lesson that “if it’s a personal thing — if I have a problem with someone in a work capacity — I’ve learned to keep it private.”

Another lesson he learned is not to take what people think of him seriously. “My father used to say, ‘Don’t read the good reviews if you won’t read the bad ones.’ I now understand what he means. Whether they hate you or love you, it doesn’t matter,” he said

“You have to know who you are; you cannot depend on public opinion for your self-esteem.”
