While many people have read Kelly Ripa’s new memoir “Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories,” Ripa’s “Live!” her predecessor, Kathie Lee Gifford said she wouldn’t be. During a recent interview with Fox 5’s Rosanna Scotto, Gifford, 69, said, “I’m very sorry to see the headlines. You know, you never know what’s true and what’s not. I went, ‘I hope this isn’t true. I just hope it doesn’t. Because what’s the point? I do not understand. I do not understand.”

Kelly Ripa Discusses Her Relationship With Regis Philbin In Her Memoir
In the new book, Ripa, 52, opens up about her relationship with Regis Philbin, who co-hosted the show from 2001 to 2011. Philbin died at the age of 88 in July 2020. Ripa reveals in the book that there was a power struggle between the two -both and said they are not that close in real life. “My name has to be smaller than Regis’s on ‘Live!’ title card and branding. An inch game, which speaks for itself. But on that we agree. After all, seniority,” he wrote in the book.

Kathie Lee Gifford Doesn’t Plan To Read Books
Gifford tells Scotto that he doesn’t plan to read the book and that he only knows how it relates to Philbin. “I will not read the book. I didn’t read it. I don’t know if it’s out yet,” he said. “I only know what Regis is for me, Rosanna. He was 15 years the best partner I could have had professionally. But he is my friend. We were dear friends and after I left the show…for the next 20 years we became even better friends. Dear friends.” The last time Gifford saw Philbin was two weeks before his death. “That was the last time I heard Regis laugh,” he said.
Gifford also explained that she had never seen Philbin be “unkind” to anyone in all the years she had known him. He said that the people in the book were not people he knew. “As long as I’ve known him, I’ve never seen him be unkind to anyone. I never did,” he said. “I’m just saying my reality is something completely different than that.” He also said that he hopes Philbin’s widow, Joy, and his four children don’t see any of the comments Ripa made in his book. “God, protect Joy and the girls from this,” he said. When asked about Ripa, Gifford said, “I’m not going to say anything bad about anybody. I have never, and I will not start now.”

Kelly Ripa Discusses Her Early Days On “Live!” In the Book
Ripa explains in the book that when she accepted the job as co-host with Philbin, she was informed that he was her “boss” and that she was not allowed to bring her “entourage” to have sex with him. She wrote about the time she arrived with a hair and makeup artist and Philbin allegedly told the executive producer, “Uh-oh…there’s an entourage.” Ripa wrote, “I feel horrible. He’s probably trying to be funny, but at the same time it feels like a pile.” He also wrote about the possibility of Philbin not wanting to co-host. “I understand that maybe he doesn’t want to host, but the network wants me to host and I don’t think I should pass up the opportunity,” he explained. “I don’t think it’s fair for him. But it’s not fair to me either.”
