Elon Musk’s new “Chief Twit” has officially suspended Kathy Griffin from Twitter after she impersonated him on the platform.
The move comes just days after Tesla’s CEO decided to enact his $8 monthly Twitter fee. To help reduce the number of accounts that are undoubtedly planning to impersonate public figures with blue checks, Musk has decided to permanently suspend accounts that impersonate other people.
It looks like comedian Kathy Griffin may be the first casualty of Musk’s new rules.
Elon Musk Says Kathy Griffin Can Get Her Twitter Account Backβ¦ But There’s a Catch
Actually, he was suspended for impersonating a comedian
β Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 7, 2022
Although her handle still reads @kathygriffin, she has changed her profile picture and name to read “Elon Musk. Griffin tweeted, “After a passionate discussion with the women in my life. I’ve decided that voting blue for their choice is the right thing to do (They’re hot ladies too, btw.) #VoteBlueUntukMelindungiWanta.β
While many laughed at the “joke,” many weren’t when news broke that Griffin had been suspended from Twitter for impersonating the CEO of SpaceX.
“Actually, he got suspended for impersonating a comedian,” Musk tweeted in response to the news, adding, “But if he really wants his account back, he can have it. For $8.”
Musk Claims He Will Now Suspend ANY Account That Is Not A Parody
Going forward, any Twitter handle that engages in impersonation without clearly stating “parody” will be suspended indefinitely
β Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 6, 2022
On Sunday, Musk explained Twitter’s new policy: “Going forward, any Twitter handle that engages in impersonation without clearly stating ‘parody’ will be permanently suspended.”
“Previously, we issued a warning before the suspension, but now that we are rolling out widespread verification, there will be no warning,” he wrote. βThis will be clearly identified as a condition of signing up to Twitter Blue. Any name change at all will result in the temporary loss of the verified checkmark.β
It doesn’t seem fair to the Trans community or people who have legally changed their name, as there is no valid verification process that allows them to prove their name has been changed.

Ethan Klein Marked His Parody Account Clear⦠and Still Suspended
MEGA
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kathy Griffin wasn’t the only celebrity to lose her Twitter account over the weekend.
The co-host of the hit show H3H3, Ethan Klein, also had his Twitter account suspended after he impersonated Musk to test the new policy. The popular YouTuber tweeted a joke about Musk’s alleged friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.
However, he will definitely mark that his tweet is a parody and his account is a parody, changing both his bio and header. After his account was suspended, the show’s H3H3 account tweeted, “Comedy is dead on Twitter and Elon Musk is killing it.”

The #Musk was so hurt that someone impersonated his account that he decided any impersonator without the obvious “parody” in their handle would be banned forever. But you can use the N-word, make jokes about gas chambers and spread misinformation and that’s A-Okay.
