Stanford Soccer Player Katie Meyer Cause of Death
Stanford University has confirmed the death of women’s soccer goalkeeper Katie Meyer. He was found dead in a residential building the day before. The cause of his death has not yet been revealed. Police suspect no foul play in his death and there was no threat to anyone on campus.
His family shared that they were ‘heartbroken’ by his loss. Katie’s sister Sam Perez took to an Instagram story to honor her sister.
Also, Samantha wrote on her IG, “No words. Thank you for all the kindness you have given to my family. I’m not ready to post anything big yet. We are heartbroken and love Kat so much.” A GoFundMe page has been started on Steve Meyer’s behalf that has raised $62,968 as of this writing.
The Stanford Daily reported that students first noticed an ambulance and police vehicles near Crothers Hall around 11 a.m. The school also released a list of grief resources available to students and others throughout the community. The school said in their statement, “We will grieve this loss together, and will be here for each other.”
Katie earned national recognition in 2019 after she made two critical saves to help the Cardinals win their third NCAA championship. When he made his second save in the penalty shootout he looked straight into the ESPN camera and acted like he was locking lips and throwing away the key has gone viral.
What’s more, Katie has also sent the internet into a frenzy after allegedly trashing the semifinals against UCLA. Talk with Only Women’s Sports, he explained that Mia (Fishel, UCLA player) yelled “We scored because of the goalie. It’s a keeper” and tells his team that he’s the weak link which isn’t very pleasant for him to hear.
So, before half time, Mia takes a penalty and that is saved by Katie. He explained, “If there were other players who took the PK, I wouldn’t have said anything. But he had spoken, so I spoke back. I asked him, “Is it the guardian? Is it the guardian?” I hope it stays on the field, but it doesn’t. Mia’s a great player. I’ve known her for a long time, and we’re competitive. We’re heating up at the moment, just like guys. And we’ll play each other again.”
Furthermore, he has played 50 games over three seasons producing 20 games and winning 34 games while allowing just 35 goals. His awards and recognitions include 2018-2019 PAC12 Championship, 2019 NCAA National Championship, two College Cup appearances, 2019 College Cup All-Tournament Team, 2019 United Coaches West Region Third Team, 2019, two-time PAC12 fall 2020-2021 academic honor list , and 2021 CoSIDA All-District 8 academic,’ among others.
