Keke Palmer opened up about being a new mom to Leodis “Leo” Andrellton, who she has with longtime boyfriend Darius Jackson. During the interview with People’s Magazine for their “Pretty in Pink” portfolio, Palmer gives helpful advice to her new friends, especially about the changes in their bodies.

She says new mothers should avoid the stress of “bouncing back” to their pre-pregnancy bodies. Palmer says, “There’s always this thing, ‘How did they do it?’ And I think the main thing I would say to any new mom is do what you can when you can, whatever makes you feel good.

The singer and actress added that women should decide what’s right for them, whether it’s restoring their bodies or taking a break. He says, “Give you whatever diet you want or exercise regimen that works for you. And if that’s not what you’re worried about, don’t worry.”

During the interview, Palmer said that after giving birth to her son, she didn’t “want to do anything” or be around anyone. She said, “Then I was like, ‘I need to talk to somebody. I need to do something.’ Then I was like, ‘Now I want to be active.’ It changes, so go at your own pace.”

The “Akeelah and the Bee” actress also encouraged new moms to always “keep it real” and avoid getting caught up in the “hype of it all.” He explained that celebrities who quickly returned to their previous bodies only did so as “part of the damn show.”

He said, “Part of our job is to look good and look the part. So don’t think it’s this thing where it’s like, ‘We did it because we got it that way.’ No, the work is online. If we want that check to be signed, we have to be what we’re supposed to be.”

Palmer also spoke to Many people about her health journey, saying she has feelings about her body. He said he learned from that experience to always “do what makes me feel good.”

Palmer said, “If I had to hold it back and do a little more work, or [if] I want to feel better about myself, I just do. Other times I’m like, ‘Yo, stop in the drive-thru. I want number five, big.’ You know what I mean? I do what I feel when I have to because sometimes taking it easy is what you need.

He talked about the project with Many people and said, “The film and the album follow my journey in the music industry and how I came to own and be proud of being an independent artist and a lone wolf in many ways. But in the film, you start to see that we often create this lone wolf identity for ourselves, even though we have so much love around us.

The singer also said this journey has discovered “what it means to validate yourself and what it means to go to that place of love.” Palmer also added that he realizes that people always create their best work from “those who already support you.”
