Who Are Kelly Curtis’ Parents?
Kelly Curtis was born to her parents John Curtis and Debbie Smith Curtis. Coming from a family of athletes, he thrived in the environment of the sports field.
So, John wasn’t surprised when Kelly made the Olympics at his last chance. “I knew when he went on his last run in St. Moritz that he was going to put in a great performance,” John revealed to NJ. “One thing about him playing basketball in high school if you’re an opposing player, you don’t want to see him on the line with a minute to go. I would wonder why he would grab the ball off the rim in the middle of the game and he would just look at me. But he will process the significance of the event and end in the end.

John Curtis’ background in sports is one of the reasons why his daughter started playing sports. John and his wife were very supportive as Kelly jumped from one sport to another.
Kelly started as track and field while in high school and excelled in it. His Springfield track coach had suggested he try Bobsled which he thought was a joke at first but joined in 2013.
From there, he finds a skeleton and he likes it.
John shared with NJ.com, “She’s been working hard to get to the number three two-woman bobsled team in the country and has been in a few competitions, and I think she might be in the Olympics. Then he said, ‘I think I’ll quit bobs and start training for skeleton.”
John though unfamiliar with the sport knew that “you go down head first” in the game. He added, “So her mom and I just give her our best wishes and I tell her to keep chasing her dreams.”
John Curtis is 72 years old. He celebrates his birthday on October 8.
John Curtis began his career as the Athletic Director at Princeton NJ Regional Schools in July 1993. He worked at the school for over ten and a half years. In 2005, he joined CBS College Sports — A CBS Company as Director of the Fields & Dreams Foundation. He also served as Director of the CBS College Sports Network (2005-2008).
In addition, John has also been the Director of the Fields & Dreams Foundation at CSTV (2005-2009). Less than a month later, he was working for Preps On The Net. And in November 2011, he took on the role of Consultant at National Interscholastic Athletic Development LLC. John has been retired since 2015.
John earned his BS in Physical Education from Springfield College in 1971 and earned his MEd in Guidance & Personnel Services from Springfield College in 1973. He was selected by the NY Jets with the 214th pick in the ’71 NFL Draft.

Meet Kelly Curtis’ Mom, Deb Smith
Debbie ‘Deb’ Smith is the mother of Kelly Curtis. Like Kelly’s father, her mother also played an important role in her athletic career.
Deb Smith turned 69 in February 2021. She celebrated her birthday on February 27.
Debbie Smith works at a fitness center in Princeton where Kelly as an 8-year-old would go and visit.
During an interview with NJ.com, Kelly’s father shared, “Kelly grew up in that environment. He does leg presses of more than 200 pounds. People would gather and watch whatever he did. Because her mother knew Kelly was not only strong but fast, she told her ‘Run to the circus and you’ll get money there.’”
Other than that, not much is known about Deb’s career.
