Kelly Ripa Opens Up To Gabby Bernstein About Dark Times

“I always come back to this from a long time ago and it was one of those dark times in the workplace where the job was full of insecurity. There’s a lot of insecurity for all of us, not just myself,” Ripa, 52, explained to Gabby Bernstein on her “Dear Gabby” podcast.

“I remember it was a time where I felt very frustrated with the job, very sad, and I really thought about whether I should leave the job or not. And it was a constant drumbeat, I talked about it until I made my colleagues are nervous. They come to me with fear. Are you going to leave us? I’m not lying, and I say I don’t know. I really need to consider my options because I’m not sure this is right for me.”

The talk show host further explained that when he was not sure what to do, he went out to eat with a group of friends. While he was still eating, a woman approached him and handed him a business card telling him to read the note written on the back of the card and then leave. “I flipped through the card, only God knows what it said, I was preparing myself for the worst and I don’t know why,” he explained. “He said, my mother lives in a nursing home, she has dementia, she is 87 years old, you are her best friend. At that time I said, I am with him.”

Strangers Gave Kelly Ripa The Clarity She Needed At The Time

Turns out it wasn’t the woman’s business card, just a random one, so Ripa was never able to find it and thanked her for giving her the clarity she so desperately needed. “I’m trying to find him because he doesn’t know what he gave me, what he gave us in that moment of struggle. I really found that this woman needed her best friend,” he said.

“Especially when you’re dealing with dementia and there’s a lot of pain, and he saw me as a constant thing that he knew. So I just thought it meant a lot and it happened at that time. Like I never said I never thought there was an accident there . That was the moment I was like that was important. It was bigger than me. It was a very meaningful, powerful and important moment for me.”

During another podcast, Bernstein and Ripa also discuss meditation, writing his book, self-awareness, dealing with anxiety, and grounding yourself.

Kelly Ripa Has Discussed Good and Bad Days at Work Before

Last month, Ripa revealed to PEOPLE that there were good and bad days on “Langsung” back in the day. He admitted that writing the chapter about his former co-host Regis Philbin in his book “Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories” was “the hardest chapter to write.” “There are good days and bad days. I don’t want to feel like I’m bashing anyone or that I’m being disrespectful,” she told PEOPLE. “But I also want people to know it’s not a ‘cakewalk’. It took me years to get my place there and earn what was used to being given to the men I worked with. Including an office and a place to put my computer.”

Ripa explained that the biggest misconception for many is that everything came easily for her. “People think I just showed up one day and was given a job and I lived happily ever after and now everything is perfect,” he said. “But it was never like that.”
