Kelly Ripa Reveals Her ‘Insanely Jealous’ Husband Mark Consuelos Made Their Marriage ‘Very Hard’

American actress and TV host Kelly Ripa shares that her husband of more than two decades, Mark Consuelos, has a personality disorder that causes problems in their marriage.

Ripa claims that her actor-husband, who took Ryan Seacrest’s place as co-host of “Live With Kelly And Ryan,” was very jealous and showed this trait when she was around other men.

Consuelos, for her part, stated that she has worked on herself and is no longer a jealous person, sharing that “Live” is her “safe place” to air her marriage grievances with Ripa.

The actress didn’t shy away from calling out her husband for his jealous tendencies in the early days of their marriage.

follow ETIn a recent episode of the “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast, Ripa, 52, told the “Riverdale” alum that her biggest complaint about him in their marriage was that he used to be “crazy jealous.”

“It’s very difficult to be married to someone who is jealous,” she said before adding that her jealousy was “a hard pill to swallow.”

Ripa continued by giving an example where Consuelos’ jealousy affected their marriage just a week after they tied the knot.

“We went to this Italian restaurant, and the waiter was this really cute old man,” he began. “She must have been in her 70s or 80s, and she looked down and she said, ‘And for the Principessa?’”

He later revealed that Consuelos had a “terrible fight” with him after he ordered water in a “very smiley way.”

Consuelos, 51, stated that she was no longer jealous after admitting that she still remembers the incident and how she fought with him over his reaction.

“I was a bit crazy at 25 but the jealousy thing definitely followed me for a while,” he said. “I’m not jealous anymore.”

Ripa seems to agree with his claims as she appreciates him not being jealous anymore, sharing that Consuelos’ “personality” used to be a point of prayer for him.

“I do not know. You know, I think I went in to do my own work and that was one of the main things that I had to solve because it got in the way,” Consuelos said when asked about what changed.

Ripa and Consuelos married on May 1, 1996, and the two share children Michael, 25, Lola, 21, and Joaquin, 19.

Mark Consuelos Replaces Ryan Seacrest In ‘Live’

Ripa’s husband replaced her longtime co-host, Ryan Seacrest, on the show. After six years as host of the ABC program, Seacrest announced in a February episode that he was leaving. Ripa later revealed that her husband would be taking over in a permanent capacity.

Seacrest joined Ripa on the show in 2017 after a long search for a replacement. The Live Wire author himself joined the show in 2001, taking over with Regis Philbin following the departure of Kathie Lee Gifford, per Our Magazine.

Consuelos previously filled in for Seacrest several times before taking the permanent position, most notably in a January episode where she joked about warning her daughter not to get into sex.

Mark Consuelos Says ‘Live’ Is His ‘Safe Place’ To Air His Marriage Issues

Consuelos said that she doesn’t expect any marital problems as a result of joining Ripa as a co-host on “Live! With Kelly And Ryan,” according to Our Magazine.

During a February guest appearance on the show, she talked about joining the team, saying, “I consider it a safe place. Honestly, sometimes I wait if I have something that I want to get off my chest, like, ‘You know, this is what I want to talk about.’ I’ve done it here when I’m a guest host because I’m safe, what could happen?”

He added, “Nine times out of 10, it’s settled here before we get home. One time it got bad.” Ripa later responded, contradicting his claims by saying, “It was never resolved, just so you know. Everything cannot be resolved.”
