Kelsea Ballerini Breaks Silence On Events Leading To Divorce

Kelsea Ballerini is opening up about her recent divorce from ex-husband Morgan Evans, whom she married on December 2, 2017.

Although the separated couple may have had the best marriage of nearly five years, Ballerini sadly called it quits on August 29 of this year, leading her to recently explain why she made such a decision.

The 29-year-old music star has had quite an interesting year, from dropping her chart-topping album “Subject to Change” to sharing news of her divorce not long after. Although the separation came only after nearly half a decade of marriage, she felt unburdened by the changes and their impact on her mental health.

Speaking candidly on the “Tell Me About It With Jade Lovine” podcast, Ballerini discussed the events that led to the end of her marriage, pointing to the early stages of the couple’s loss of love. Recalling a time when she didn’t feel like her marriage anymore but hoped it would pass, she said:

“For a while, it was like, ‘OK, this is just a new phase in a relationship. Because relationships go through seasons, right? And it’s not always going to be butterflies and rainbows.”

For a period after that, he has the same thoughts and is usually like, “Oh, this is new… The sparkle is gone. That’s what happened.” The country pop icon mentioned that she had entered a “phase” where she was waiting for the spark in their marriage to return, but alas, it didn’t.

So, she decided to file for divorce because she felt it was the right thing to do for her happiness and mental health. “At the end of the day,” he explains, “It’s a shame and an insult to yourself if you know something isn’t right and you stay.”

Given her decision, Ballerini insisted that she refused to feel “embarrassed”, however, she sent a message to her haters, saying, “My credit for that, well, that’s on you.”

Two months after the country music couple filed for divorce, they reached a quick settlement arrangement, apparently in their favor as evidenced in court documents obtained by The Blast.

Proceedings revealed that the two, who had a prenuptial agreement, had moved out of their marital home in Nashville. Their property has also been listed for sale using a mutually agreed estate agent while they share household furniture and other personal assets.

The news of their divorce became clear when Ballerini took to her social media to share a lengthy message. A move the “Miss Me More” singer described as a “Very Difficult Decision”. He shared:

“Friends, I always try my best to share my life with you in a real and vulnerable way while also protecting the layers of my personal life as it happens.”

Afterward, the “Dibs” frontman mentioned that the divorce had become “public record,” prompting his desire for fans to hear updates directly from him. Calling it an “extremely difficult decision,” she added that it stemmed from “a journey of love, growth, and effort that has finally come to an end.”

Despite this, she is “very grateful” for her many years of marriage to Evans and remains hopeful for a new phase in her life. While completing the note, she wrote, “With a very active schedule ahead, please know that we are both fragile, actively recovering and showing the best we can.”

‘Legends’ Singer Changes Song Lyrics To Include Divorce Drama

During Ballerini’s Heartfirst tour in New York in September, she made some interesting points about her divorce drama by changing some lyrics at the concert. The Blast reports that initially, she changed her single “What I Have,” where she sang “I got my own body in bed,” instead of “I got a warm body in bed.”

And for “Get over Yourself,” the “Peter Pan” singer crooned, “I’m the crazy guy who ruined your life” instead of “I’m the crazy ex who ruined your life.” He also sings about the situation in “Doin’ My Best,” a song from his latest album in which he references the end of his friendship with his former friend, Halsey, because of her marriage. In his words:

“I’m friends with pop stars / I put them on track four but / Wish I could take them back; I would never have asked / If I had known we would never speak again.”
