According to a report from PEOPLE, when Ballerini stopped by a New York City concert on Saturday evening, she changed the lyrics to some of her songs. The 29-year-old did so so she could talk about her split with Evans.

For starters, the songwriter changed some of the lyrics from her single “What I Have,” where instead of singing, “I got a warm body in bed,” she said, “I got my own body in bed.” Next, while performing “Get Over Yourself,” he said, “I’m the crazy bitch who ruined your life,” instead of, “I’m the crazy ex who ruined your life.” Ballerini also changed the words in her song “Miss Me More.”

The Billboard Women in Music “Rising Star” winner ended her set with “Doin’ My Best,” a song from her upcoming album that seemed to reference her marital problems with her 37-year-old ex and falling out with former friend and singer Halsey. He sings:

“I’m friends with pop stars / I put them on track four but / Wish I could take them back; I would never have asked / If I had known we would never speak again.”

Speaking about the lyrics, Ballerini claimed that he is “human” and there are some things he “would like to take ownership of”.[SIC] The creator of the “Peter Pan” song also said that while the song is embarrassing and creepy, it all counts as a “human experience.”

Regarding her divorce from Evans, The Blast notes that Ballerini announced the life-changing news via an Instagram Story statement. After stating that he shared information with fans based on his “openness” with them, the “half from my hometown” musician continued:

“This very difficult decision is the result of a journey of love, growth, and effort that has finally come to an end.”

She added that although it was difficult to “find the words here, she felt “very grateful for the year of marriage” she and Evans. For the closing part of her message, the singer pleaded with supporters to “be careful” that she and her ex “are both fragile , actively healing and showing the best we can.”

The former romantic couple were first introduced at an award show in March 2016. What followed was sparks flying between them and an alleged first kiss at the same event. By November, Ballerini and Evans became red carpet officials, appearing in coordinating outfits for the 2016 Country Music Association Awards.

The couple announced their engagement the following month and married a year later in December 2017. Their wedding ceremony, held in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, was “tequila themed.” It was also only attended by 100 of the couple’s close friends and family.

After the ceremony, Evans revealed that their handwritten vows were the real star, as he couldn’t get over how beautiful his bride’s vows were.

Ballerini Reveals Her Emotional Side, Heartbreak To Millions Of Fans

Earlier this month, Ballerini showed fans her emotional side. The Blast shared that the “Roses” singer uploaded a TikTok video showing her hugging her knees as she sat in the bathtub listening to sad music.

The country pop star was wearing just a heart-shaped necklace with eyeliner and mascara — which appeared smudged around her eyes, a telltale sign that she’d been crying. Ballerini wrote “Complex” under the “Complex” video as she lip-synced to the ballad of the same name sung by Katie Gregson-MacLeod.

Although the “Dibs” singer doesn’t say anything in the video, the lyrics “I wear his boxers / I’m a good wife / We won’t be together / But maybe the next life” is a clear indication of how he feels about ending his five-year marriage to Evans .

The clip sparked an emotional response from her followers, with one telling her, “This isn’t “The End.” It’s just the end of a chapter. Time for a new beginning.”
