Kidnapped woman rescued after mouthing ‘save me’ to Florida police

A kidnap victim who showed “clear signs of physical abuse” was rescued from her alleged captors in Florida after saying “save me” to a police officer responding to a medical call, authorities said.

Police in Cape Coral arrived at an address in the 200 block of SW 21st Terrace around 3 a.m. on Nov. 18 after receiving a report that 30-year-old Jordan Garrett was experiencing a “medical emergency,” the agency said in a press release. this week.

While on scene, officers noticed that a woman who was with Garrett was “in distress” and showing signs of abuse.

“The victim, in a plea for help, silently said ‘save me’ to an officer,” the police said.

“Further investigation revealed that she had suffered several bruises and injuries, reportedly caused by Garrett.”

It was not immediately known what Garrett removed when police arrived.

Both Garrett and the alleged abuse victim were taken to the hospital, where medics found “extensive bruising” on the woman’s body, police said.

The woman later shared what police described as a “horrific account” of being held captive in her own home by Garrett, who allegedly subjected her to repeated physical and sexual abuse.

The 30-year-old suspect allegedly took the woman’s phone after she tried to call for help and threatened her.

A police investigation determined that Garrett “forcefully restrained the victim, subjected him to continuous abuse, and prevented him from seeking medical attention or contacting law enforcement,” which police said put his life “in danger.”

Police did not reveal how long the woman was held captive, nor did they say how the suspect and victim knew each other.

After Garrett was released from the hospital, he was booked into the Lee County Jail on charges of kidnapping, battery and sexual battery, depriving the victim of a crime of medical care and obstruction of justice.

He remained in jail Friday on $190,000 bond.

He is due back in court for a hearing on Dec. 18.
