Captured killer Danelo Cavalcante is being held at a maximum-security prison in Pennsylvania, where he will remain as he faces charges stemming from a two-week manhunt he sparked after being released from prison last month.
The 34-year-old was booked into SCI Phoenix in Montgomery County on Wednesday, hours after a K-9 unit sniffed out his hideout under a woodpile about 20 miles north of the Chester County Jail — which he escaped from on Aug. 31 after crab -walk up and past a pair of close walls.
Within hours of his arrest, Cavalcante was formally charged for the prison break, carried out just days after being sentenced to death for stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death in front of his two young children in 2021.
Prosecutors are expected to bring further charges Thursday in relation to any crimes he committed during his 14 days on the run.
They will likely include at least burglary and theft charges, as Cavalcante is suspected of stealing clothes and supplies along the way, even breaking into a suburban home and making off with a .22 caliber rifle.
A preliminary hearing has been set for Sept. 27, according to court documents, which state Cavalcante has been denied bail.

If Cavalcante is assigned to work, he will deliver his details either in the prison shoe factory, the clothing factory or by cleaning the laundry.
After the jail opened, inmates transferred from the older jail complained about very strict procedures inside, ranging from limited phone access, to being barred from returning to the yard if they returned to their cells to use the bathroom, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Serious escape attempts at the prison are few and far between – only one listed by the Department of Corrections, which describes a sexual predator jumping from the prison’s roof but quickly foiled when he hits the hard concrete below.
In addition to several murderers who have been held at SCI Phoenix, comedian Bill Cosby has been housed there until his sexual assault conviction is overturned in 2021.
Cavalcante was led from the state police station in handcuffs, then taken to SCI Phoenix and booked.

Cavalcante was left covered in blood after being captured Wednesday morning when he tried to escape from a Belgian Malinois K-9 named Yoda, who sank his teeth into the killer and pinned him to the ground.
Officers pulled Cavalcante over without firing a shot, but not before posing for a group photo with their arrests.
In addition to the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Cavalcante is suspected of fatally shooting a friend six times in 2017 during a dispute over car repair payments in his hometown in Brazil.
After the murder, Cavalcante hid in a Brazilian ranch for several weeks before heading north and illegally entering the United States.
