King Charles diagnosed with cancer less than 15 months after taking the throne, Buckingham Palace reveals

King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer less than 15 months after ascending to the throne, Buckingham Palace announced Monday.

“During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted,” the palace said in a statement. “Further diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.

“His Majesty has today started a periodic treatment schedule, during which he was advised by doctors to postpone the tasks facing the public.

“Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to carry out government affairs and official paperwork as usual,” added the palace.

The shocking development comes just a week after the 75-year-old monarch was released from hospital following treatment for an enlarged prostate.

Officials did not disclose the specific type of cancer Charles was diagnosed with.

“The King thanked his medical team for their quick intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure,” the statement from the palace continued.

“He remains completely positive about his treatment and hopes to return to full public duty as soon as possible.

“His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to avoid speculation and in the hope that it will help the understanding of people around the world who are affected by cancer.”

Kensington Palace has not said when the monarch is expected to return to her royal duties, as all her public engagements have been temporarily halted.

Prostate cancer remains the most common type of cancer in the US, and the second leading cause of cancer death among adult men, according to the National Cancer Institute.

The case is similar in the UK, with more than a third of new prostate cancer cases appearing in people aged 75 and over, according to the National Health Service.

The NHS noted that there had been an increase in inquiries about prostate health following Charles’ treatment last week.
