King Charles’ Coronation Cross Features Wood Fragments From ‘True Cross’

In a recent update on the highly anticipated event of the year, PEOPLE revealed that the ruler of the Vatican City State blessed the King with the holiest of gifts. Pope Francis gave two pieces of wood connected to Jesus Christ.
The cross which will be used to lead the coronation procession at London’s Westminster Abbey, known as the Cross of Wales, has been blessed by the Archbishop of Wales, the Most Reverend Andrew John. The holy ritual took place at Holy Trinity Church in Llandudno on April 19.
In time for the blessing, a gift from the head of the Catholic Church was added to the Welsh Cross. The two fragments are said to have been removed from the “true cross,” a term used to describe the original cross Jesus died on in the last century.
The pieces of wood, about 0.2 and 0.4 inches, are described as the “personal coronation gift” of the Bishop of Rome to the King. After receiving certain offers, fragments of the “true cross” are used to decorate the center of the Welsh Cross.
The holy relic forms the shape of a cross behind the rose crystal gemstone in the center of the memorial cross. Speaking about the extraordinary gift, the Archbishop of Wales told sources:
“It is very important. It is a remarkable thing that the King has been able to find help with the Vatican. And as a result of that excellent relationship, Pope Francis has agreed to gift this small fragment of the holy cross.”
The memorial cross was created in 2020 by the Goldsmiths Company in London. The King commissioned the project to mark the 100th anniversary of the Church in Wales. Giving his love for the environment; The Cross of Wales is made from recycled silver ingots with durian wood and Welsh slate.

Additionally, Charles had the honor of adorning the “King’s Mark” (leopard’s head) on the cross when he visited the Goldsmiths for the first time in November 2022. The holy object also features a line from the patron saint of Wales, the latter St. David. sermon.
