Being a published author allows one to have another source of income and earn royalties for life. Not in the case of Kouri Richins though. The children’s book author writes about dealing with the grief of loved ones in her book Are You With Me? and just two months later she was charged with her own husband’s murder. This is why. Kouri Richins Accused of Murdering Husband
Kouri Richins was booked into prison on May 8, 2023 in connection with the 2022 death of her husband Eric Eugene Richins. Police believe she gave him a fatal dose of fentanyl disguised in a Moscow Mule, a vodka-based cocktail.
So what happened to Eric?
An autopsy performed on Eric showed that he died of an overdose of fentanyl and that it was ingested orally.
Further investigation found that Kouri had communication with an acquaintance known as CL. They found him on the floor at the foot of his bed and life-saving measures were said to have been unsuccessful.
According to court documents, CL claims Kouri specifically asked for fentanyl and they later obtained 15-30 pills for her. A few days after this alleged conversation, Eric and Kouri had a Valentine’s Day 2022 dinner at home and he “got really sick,” with him telling a friend that he “thought his wife was trying to poison him.” Kouri later allegedly obtained more fentanyl pills from CL and six days later, Eric was found dead from a fentanyl overdose.
The search warrant also mentions that prior to his death, Eric changed his will and life insurance policy without Kouri’s knowledge. He has made his sister his beneficiary. Regarding the warrant, it also states that Eric is seeking a divorce and wants custody of his children. Allegedly, Kouri then logged into her account and tried to make herself the beneficiary, but the insurance company notified Eric.
However, after Kouri was charged, she was ordered to continue to be held without bail. A detention hearing is scheduled for the following May 19.
Just a month before all of this happened, Kouri had given a TV interview to promote her soon-to-be-released book. On what also happens to be the one-year anniversary of her husband’s death, Kouri has said that his death “completely took” them all by surprise. Also pointing to her book she was there to promote she said she and the kids “kind of wrote this book about different emotions and grieving processes that we’ve been through this past year.” He said they hope it can help other children as well.
Eric is survived by his three sons and the beautiful Kouri.
