“Welcome to the Chippendales” is an eight-episode limited series, and according to Hulu’s description, it explores “the crazy, darkly comedic, crime-filled story behind the one-man show that became a cultural phenomenon.” The late Banerjee rose to fame in 1979 when she created a male stripper dance to attract female audiences at her nightclub in Los Angeles.
His troupe of male strippers was the first of its kind, and it changed the nightclubs and the business. Chippendales has now evolved into a Broadway-style burlesque show, with Las Vegas premieres and residencies around the world. Banerjee herself is a very controversial person who was once convicted of plotting the murder of her business partner Nick De Noia.
The businessman is also accused in court of plotting the murders of some of his former Chippendale players, who he claims are considered a threat to his growing empire. In 1994, hours before her sentence, Banerjee died of suicide.
