Las Vegas man charged for threatening Jewish senator, allegedly vowing ‘to finish what Hitler started’

A Las Vegas man has been arrested for allegedly leaving a vile antisemitic voicemail to a Jewish senator — calling him a “flea” and vowing to “finish what Hitler started,” according to a federal complaint.

John Anthony Miller, 43, now faces federal charges of threatening a federal official for messages he left between October 11 and October 19, and again on October 24.

The federal complaint did not name the senator Miller allegedly threatened, but Jacky Rosen, a Democrat from Nevada who describes himself as a “vocal supporter of Israel,” confirmed he was the recipient.

“Threats against public officials should be taken seriously,” a spokesman for his office said in a statement, adding: “Senator Rosen trusts the US Attorney’s Office and federal law enforcement to handle this matter.”

The messages called Rosen, who once served as president of his local synagogue, insulting like “lice” and threatening to “finish what Hitler started,” according to the complaint.

The caller once tried to tie the senator’s support for Israel to his beliefs in a message that said, “You’ve chosen a bitch and you’ve chosen a bad one. I don’t give a f–k if you’re born into it or not, bitch, you f–king bad bitch and we’re gonna wipe you out, f–k,” according to the complaint.

Two days later, he allegedly called again and said: “Senator, I’m sorry to say, but you know, you’re a piece of s–t and you’re going to burn in the king’s hell for f– committing a crime.”

Other messages mention Israeli settlements and the West Bank.

In one ominous message, the caller allegedly told Rosen that he would see her soon. Then Miller tried to enter a Las Vegas courthouse on Oct. 18 to see the senator, but was denied entry, the complaint said.

At that point, he allegedly began walking down Las Vegas Boulevard yelling that he wanted to “kill every last Israeli terrorist.”

The last message reportedly came on October 24, this time from an unknown number, when the caller threatened the senator’s family.

Voice and speech patterns matched previous voicemails, and police were able to trace the cell phone number from the initial call to a T-Mobile account registered to Miller.

He had also left his name in one of the messages, police allege, and they were also able to confirm his identity based on surveillance footage from outside the federal courthouse on Oct. 18 — comparing his appearance to a previous mugshot, according to the complaint.

The mugshot is from March 2022, but it’s unclear what Miller was arrested for at the time.

He will return to court on Nov. 13.

The threat apparently came after Rosen joined a bipartisan delegation of senators to visit Israel after the Oct. 7 attacks.

Following the trip, he urged the Senate to approve additional defense funding for the country and quickly confirmed Jack Lew as ambassador, according to NBC News.

As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Rosen also pushed the Department of Defense to transfer various unused military assets to Israel.

Meanwhile, antisemitic incidents across the country have risen nearly 400%, compared to the same period last year, according to the Anti-Defamation League.

Speaking about the rise of antisemitism on Monday, as President Biden unveiled his plan to combat anti-Jewish hatred, Rosen told reporters: “This is what Jews all over the world are facing.”
