Queen Elizabeth II left an award-winning mark on the film industry thanks to her collaboration with Britain’s favorite animal, Paddington Bear.
The late Head of the Commonwealth was the longest-reigning monarch in British history, with a record-breaking 70-year reign. The beloved king breathed his last in September 2022 at the age of 96.
Seven months after the late king died, his wealth of achievements increased with an honorary trophy at this year’s British Academy Television Awards.

As PEOPLE shared, the former ruler of the United Kingdom was honored posthumously at the annual television awards show thanks to his iconic sketch with Paddington Bear. The late Queen starred as a children’s book character in the “Paddington Meets The Queen” skit from Platinum Jubilee: Party at the Palace.
The touching scene won the P&O Cruises Memorable Moment Award at the BAFTA ceremony, the only public vote trophy up for grabs. The sketch was broadcast in June 2022 during the king’s Platinum Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace.
In the two-and-a-half-minute skit, the dead ruler and a fictional bear enjoy a cup of tea with a marmalade sandwich, Paddington’s favorite treat. Simon Farnaby, who played the butler in the memorable sketch, paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth in his touching acceptance speech.
Speaking on behalf of the Paddington actor, the British Horrible History troupe began his message with a shout. “Our thanks go out to the mostly invisible team of amazing filmmakers who created these lovingly handcrafted moments,” the TV personality said.
Farnaby claimed the Queen and Paddington enjoyed a “delightful Jubilee tea” while filming the skit. The “Ghosts” star believes the late king received a unique farewell thanks to a touching moment.
“It might as well be a farewell because the person most deserving of this award is no longer with us to receive it,” the 50-year-old declared before ending his speech sweetly, “We can only accept it on his behalf and say, ‘Thank you. you, ma’am , for everything.’ “
The friendly bespectacled bear, voiced by actor Ben Whishaw, also expressed his gratitude for the brilliant achievement on Twitter. After the awards show, Paddington’s official page shared a cute message:
“Mr. Brown says we’ve won a BAFTA, but I’m not sure what that means. Award Winning For Tea Drinking Adventures? That’s amazing. Thank you all. #BAFTATVAwards”

It’s not the first time the marmalade-loving character has honored Queen Elizabeth’s memory. Shortly after her death, the children’s book character tweeted, “Thank you, Ma’am, for everything.”
Over One Thousand Paddington Stuffed Toys Used To Honor The Late King’s Death
A month after the former Queen of England died, fans left more than 1,000 Paddington and teddy bears of various sizes outside the Royal Residences in London and Windsor as a tribute to the late ruler.
Buckingham Palace, The Royal Parks and Barnardo’s Children’s Charity announced that they will transfer the Paddingtons and teddy bears to one of the former Queen’s non-profit organizations to ensure that the gifts left behind by mourners do not go to waste.
The toys were sent to Barnado children’s services, the institution handed over by Her Majesty to now-Queen Camilla in 2016. “The teddy bears will all be professionally cleaned and delivered in the coming weeks,” a statement released.
Weeks before the Paddingtons and teddy bears were given to a non-profit organization, the truth behind the late king’s passing was shared. According to the Queen’s death certificate, she died at 3:10pm local time on Thursday, September 8, 2022.
The 96-year-old died at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The document highlights the official cause of death of the Sovereign of the Victorian Order as “old age.”
This corresponds to the statement of the royal family after the death of Elizabeth II. “The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon,” the message read, noting that King Charles III and Queen Camilla were then staying at Balmoral before returning to London.
“I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Commonwealth and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world,” the King continued his poignant message, acknowledging the world’s “deep love and respect” for his late mother.
