Lauren Drain Kagan has opened up about her childhood, including her mental health struggles over the years.
He grew up as a member of the Westboro Baptist Church, which was known as an evil cult for their “homophobic pickets”. The Instagram influence and fitness model was first brought into the organization by her father when she was just 14 years old. As he grew older, he left the Church and began to focus on his fitness journey.
“I was indoctrinated into the cult as a child but later expelled for disobedience. Sent to a motel room with nothing more than a suitcase, I was forbidden to communicate with my siblings and family,” she wrote on her website. “We haven’t spoken since.”
“I had to rebuild my whole life looking through the hourglass at the family and friends I once had,” he continued. “Since then, I have spoken at universities, conferences and many other events to help educate people about the power of hate and brainwashing. I’ve started a charity to help others escape cults, written a book, photographed for NOH8, and more.”
The fitness model concludes by saying, “In short, it doesn’t matter where you are in life or how bad it looks right now; I am living proof that if you just put one foot in front of the other – you are moving forward. You are making progress, however small it may be.”
He is currently focusing on his fan site and fitness journey.
