“Gilmore Girls” star Lauren Graham talks about how Matthew Perry felt in his last year before he died at age 54.
Graham guest starred on several of Perry’s shows, growing close to the “Friends” cast over the years. He also admits that “nobody makes me laugh as hard” as he does. “I mean, there were just tears,” she said during an appearance on CBS Mornings. “There was joy in being around him and being his friend.”

The actor went on to give an insight into how Perry was feeling in the year before his death, claiming he was very happy and proud of his 2022 memoir.
“And I will also say that last year, he was very proud of the book he wrote and how many people he touched,” he said. Perry included a photo of her and Graham in her memoir. “And it was a success that gave him a level of happiness that I hadn’t seen in him for a long time. So that’s a wonderful memory,” he added.
The 54-year-old actress has struggled with addiction for a long time, though it wasn’t until she released her memoir that she opened up and let down her walls about that time in her life. Last year, he stated that he had been clean for 18 months during that time, in fact, spending “$9 million or something trying to get sober.” After coming out with his addiction, he vowed to help others who were struggling.

As previously reported, Perry was found in her hot tub, unresponsive. Police initially responded to a 911 call to assist with what they described as a possible ‘water rescue’ at the deceased’s Pacific Palisades home.
She is believed to have drowned, but an autopsy and toxicology report will answer more questions about her exact cause of death. Prescription anti-depressants and anti-anxiety drugs were reportedly found at Matthew Perry’s home following his tragic death, although sources say no illegal narcotics were found at the scene.
