Within two days of Roach briefly announcing his retirement, he detailed his decision and his plans to move on in an interview with Vogue.

She explained, “I’m not saying I’m retiring from fashion. I love fashion. I love business, and I love being creative. What I will retire from is the celebrity styling part: being in service and serving others. That’s what I’m going to retire on, yeah.”
Roach went on to state that the nature of his job required him to put his clients first, even over their health and happiness. So the decision to retire was to relieve stress.
Sharing why the decision was necessary, Roach said, “I got in the car, and I made a decision. I said: “You know, I’ve done everything I wanted to do in this career. I’ve received all the awards, the awards, I’ve changed people’s lives…And I think I’m enough, you know?”
He continued, “So the Instagram post was not a PR stunt. I really gave myself the grace to say: It’s okay. You can do something else.” The “Legendary” judge confirmed that his decision was a form of self-care before addressing the massive support he received from everyone. He noted that fans of love and others he worked with showered him with “beautiful.”

He added, “So that’s the reason why, in my own mind, I think it’s okay to put myself behind for everybody. Because I feel like I have to work harder and be better than everyone else. And because I was a little boy who cried to sleep because there wasn’t enough food to fill me up. “
Roach emphasized that the sadness never went away despite people telling him not to. As for the seasoned fashion designer’s plans for her next chapter, she gave a little insight into what she’s passionate about. She emphasized that she wanted a legacy more than her styling career.
He went on to share that he will not only walk the runway but plans to teach; to help others achieve what he has. “I want that to be my legacy, a legacy that I actually help change people’s lives—and not just celebrities by putting them in the best clothes, you know?” Roach shared.
