In a recent interview with WSJ Magazine, Linda Evangelista has opened up about her past battle with breast cancer, revealing her diagnosis in 2018, which led to a double mastectomy.

Looking back on her diagnosis at the time, Evangelista said during her interview, “The margins were not good, and due to other health factors, without hesitation, because I wanted to put everything behind me and not have to deal with this, I opted for a mastectomy both ways. Think I’m fine and ready to live. Breast cancer won’t kill me.”

However, despite initially thinking she had overcome the disease, the 58-year-old supermodel faced another scare in July 2022 when she discovered a lump on her chest. The revelation marks the “Catwalk” actor’s first public discussion of his cancer experience.

Looking back on her experience, Evangelista shares that her oncologist was initially “unimpressed” but opted for an MRI, which revealed the need for a biopsy. An invasive procedure confirmed cancer in his pectoral muscles.

According to the “Prêt-à-Porter” actress, her response to her doctor was clear, “Dig a hole in my chest,” she said, every Daily Mail. “I don’t want it to look pretty. I want you to dig. I want to see the hole in my chest when you’re done. Do you understand me? I did not die because of this.”

Despite being informed of the good prognosis, Evangelista questioned why it was not considered great, learning of the unfavorable Oncotype score, indicating a risk of recurrence.

Resigning to fate, she added, “I know I have one foot in the grave, but I’m really in celebration mode.” He also stated that “only a few people know” about his cancer journey.

This results from the CoolSculpting treatment which aims to reduce fat cells but has the opposite effect, causing enlargement. The experience led to six years of isolation and depression.

In an interview, Evangelista told Vogue he was “so depressed” that he “hated” himself following the botched procedure, which cost him his livelihood. In February 2022, she underwent two liposuction surgeries to correct the issue and publicly declared she was done living in shame.

In September 2022, the supermodel revealed a lawsuit against Zeltiq Aesthetics for serious injuries, which was settled.

He stated of his experience, “If I had known, the side effects might have included losing your livelihood and you would have been so depressed that you would have hated yourself… I wouldn’t have taken that risk.”

Evangelista continued, “Am I healed mentally? Absolutely not. But I’m very grateful for the support I get from my friends and my industry… you won’t see me in a swimsuit, that’s for sure.”

Although he has not fully recovered mentally, he appreciates the support he has received but anticipates difficulties in his industry due to his physical changes. “It will be difficult to find a job with things that stand out from me; without retouching, or squeezing into something, or recording something or compressing or cheating,” he added.

The supermodel expressed deep admiration for Hayek, emphasizing the value of family togetherness and their positivity.

He described Hayek as a “ladies’ woman” and went further to highlight her generosity and kindness, adding, “Just like me, [she’s] very family oriented, and so positive. He is a blessing to us…. He was very, very generous and kind to me when I was going through my chemotherapy.”
