Lizzo Breaks Silence On ‘Fabricated Claims’ Made By Former Dancers

Singer Lizzo is speaking out just days after she faced a shocking lawsuit from her former backup dancer.

Three of his former backup dancers, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, have alleged that he forced them to attend an adult entertainment show in Amsterdam and subjected them to weight shaming, among other “sensational” allegations.

On Thursday, the “Truth Hurts” singer took to Instagram to address the allegations made against her in a brief statement. In the two-paragraph message, he claimed that the allegations against him were “sensational” and “fabricated.”

“The last few days have been very difficult and very frustrating,” he said. “My work ethic, morals and respect have all been questioned. My character has been criticized. Normally I choose not to respond to false allegations, but this is as unbelievable as it sounds and too outrageous not to address.”

“This is a sensational story from a former employee who has publicly admitted that they were told their behavior during the visit was inappropriate and unprofessional,” he continued, hinting that there may be another side to the story.

“As an artist, I am always passionate about what I do. I take my music and performances seriously because at the end of the day I just want to put out the best art that represents me and my fans,” he continued.

“With passion comes hard work and high standards,” he added. “Sometimes I have to make difficult decisions but I never intend to make anyone uncomfortable or as if they are not valued as an important part of the team.”

“I’m not here to be seen as a victim, but I also know that I’m not the villain that people and the media are portraying me as these days,” he said. “I’m very open with my sexuality and express myself but I can’t accept or allow people to use that openness to make me something I’m not.”

“There is nothing I take more seriously than the respect we deserve as women in the world. I know what it’s like to be body-shamed every day and would never criticize or fire an employee because of their weight,” she wrote in response to the lawsuit that has gone viral.

Lizzo ended her statement by writing, “I’m hurt but I’m not going to let this overshadow the good work I’m doing in the world. I would like to thank everyone who has reached out to lift me up during this difficult time.”

The comment section is split down the middle. While some believed Lizzo, others believed the backup dancers. “Girls. You got a 37 page lawsuit against you. Where is the proof?” one user asked. “Goodbye girl. This is the saddest apology I have ever read. You have dancers, former directors and other people saying the SAME thing. It is not a coincidence….” another netizen shared.

“Inviting your employees to a strip club is not sexual assault (and damaging to the free use of the term) and questioning someone’s dedication to their work does not automatically amount to body shaming. People are so quick to tear down the hand that feeds them,” wrote one user. “Secretly recording confidential sessions with your employer is a punishable offence. The language in this article and allegations is weak at best and I hope both parties involved in the story are properly acknowledged before people make such strong judgments.”

“Lizzo was my role model and my rock throughout my childhood. Growing up plus size especially in middle and high school is very difficult. People tell me every day that I’m not allowed to love myself or be happy with who I am. Lizzo told me otherwise,” shared another follower. “I remember the days where I would be bullied for my body, and when I got home, I turned on Lizzo.”

“I thought I finally found someone who understood my pain. I saw him in concert twice and spent years loving myself through his work. I was really disappointed and heartbroken to learn of his recent allegations, knowing that someone I respect to cause so much pain breaks my heart,” they continued. “This statement doesn’t provide any answers or alleviate concerns. I don’t know what’s next for his career but I really hope he grows and nothing like this happens will happen again.”

Although some fans defended it, perhaps Lizzo should take the advice of one user who offered, “I would suggest turning off the comments.”
