“The thing is, when a black artist reaches a certain level of popularity, it’s going to be a predominantly white crowd,” the artist explained. “I don’t make music for white people. I’m a black woman; I make music from my black experience, for me to heal myself [from] the experience we call life.”

Lizzo Recently Faced Some Backlash For Playing Former President James Madison’s Crystal Flute

In a Washington DC concert a few weeks ago, Lizzo made history and was one of the few people to ever play President James Madison’s famous crystal flute. Historical artifacts were loaned to the artist by the Library of Congress during the concert, and he played several songs with them.

After asking his audience to “be patient,” the 34-year-old played a few short melodic notes on the flute and bertwerked while playing different trills, then respectfully handed the 200-year-old instrument over to the onstage operator. .

Although Lizzo is known as a classically trained flute player in addition to his singing and rapping, his handling of the historic crystal flute is frustrating to certain individuals. Some blamed him for twerking while playing an instrument, and others pointed the finger at the Library of Congress for loaning it out in the first place.
