Being in the public eye during a major and life-changing event can add layers of sadness and tension to the grieving process.
Unfortunately, “Love Is Blind” star Danielle Ruhl may have found out exactly this as of late.
Ruhl, 29, rose to fame on the second season of “Love Is Blind” earlier this year for her transparency and mental health advocacy. Ruhl openly navigated her mental health struggles on camera throughout her relationship with Nick Thompson, 36.
The couple, who decided to say “I do” to their relationship at the end of the “Love Is Blind” trial, finally chose to end their relationship by filing for divorce last month. Since the couple’s divorce announcement, Ruhl has continued to speak candidly about her mental health journey on social media.
Yesterday, Ruhl wrote an open letter and posted it to her Instagram account, which touches on various aspects of her experience navigating heartbreak in the public eye; some of her cast mates came out with encouraging supportive comments!
We’ll dive into the details of Ruhl’s letter a little later but in the meantime, let’s take a look back at Ruhl’s mental health journey.
Ruhl Transparently Takes Viewers Into Her Mental Health Experience
Ruhl’s commitment to staying transparent about his mental health has been an asset to his fans.
The Blast has seen how positively fans have viewed Ruhl’s mental health comments on Instagram.
One fan thanked Ruhl for devoting his public platform to openly and persistently discussing important aspects of the human experience.
According to our report, the fan wrote, “Love how you used your voice for such an important thing. As someone who battles depression and bpd it means a lot.”
Using his voice for “important things” is an act that Ruhl greatly appreciates as a public figure. He reflected on his commitment in a particular Instagram post from this Spring.
“Ppl have been asking me if speaking out about mental health, self love, etc. would be so important to me if I wasn’t an ‘influencer’ (or whatever you call it idk),” she began, “It’s a thing that I have. always talk openly with friends/family & now that I have a platform to deliver that message on a wider scale, it continues to become more and more important,” explained Ruhl.
Ruhl went on to tell fans “This means the world to others that they are not alone & can overcome these feelings even if it feels impossible at times” in this particular post.
Recently, following the news of her divorce from Thompson, Ruhl opened up to her Instagram followers about how she felt after the news became public.
“It’s funny when people say, ‘How come you’re so happy?’ Would you rather I broadcast my Instagram Live crying for eight hours straight because I can do that if you want [me] to!,” said Ruhl in an Instagram story from mid-September.
Ruhl also explained how crying was a normal component of her healing process.
“[But] I cry all the time,” she also said, “I cry easily. I cry when I’m happy, I cry when I’m sad, but who wants to see that?”
Healing With the Help of Friends and Support Systems
The “Love Is Blind” stars have had to deal with public curiosity about their divorce ever since the three-episode reunion premiere, “Love Is Blind: After The Altar,” premiered on Netflix last week.
Yesterday Ruhl returned to Instagram and continued to update his fans on his current perspective in an open letter with three slides.
“It took a while to talk openly about my ending marriage, because the emotions are still raw,” Ruhl wrote in the first slide. “However, I will always appreciate those who have followed my journey and continued to support me through this entire experience.”
Ruhl touts the support system she’s gained since entering the limelight and reality TV bubble.
“I have made amazing friends that I now call family. Found an amazing support group and virtual friends from all over the world that I am forever grateful for,” he continued. “I have also learned to love myself and prioritize surrounding myself with those who love me for who I am…”
His “Love Is Blind” co-stars Mallory Zapata and Iyanna McNeely offered their love in the comments section of Ruhl’s post; Ruhl also included a photo featuring her and her female friends from the show in a hug!
Zapata wrote, “Beyond proud of you! You are a great person and friend,” with a heart emoji.
McNeely chimed in by commenting, “Very proud. I love you.”
Congratulations to Danielle Ruhl for continuing to openly share her thoughts and feelings for the greater good of her healing process!
