Actress Lupita Nyong’o has expressed her gratitude to her fans for the messages of support they sent her following the announcement of her shock split from sports journalist Selema Masekela.
The “Black Panther” star noted that “it feels good to have a corner” on the internet for “heartbreak.”
On October 19, Nyong’o revealed she had split from Masekela after almost a year of dating. She is currently linked to actor Joshua Jackson, who is currently going through a divorce.

In the first post on her IG story, she wrote, “Thank you for all the kindness I have received from sharing my heartbreaking news. Those words of encouragement meant more to me than I expected. It is a balm.”

On October 19, Nyong’o shocked her followers after announcing her breakup with Masekela. The actress shared a lengthy statement on Instagram detailing how she felt heartbroken and cheated by her ex.
“At this time, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly separate myself from someone I can no longer trust,” Nyong’o began. “I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of sudden and devastating love extinguished by deception.”
He added, “I was tempted to run into the shadows and hide, only to return to the light when I had regained enough of my strength to say, ‘Whatever, my life is better this way.’ But I am reminded that the magnitude of the pain I feel is the measure of my capacity for love.

In her heartfelt statement on Instagram, the “US” actress encouraged others experiencing grief to try not to “run from the pain” because experiencing it comes with “wisdom.”
Nyong’o wrote, “Thus, I choose to face the pain, cultivate the courage to live my life to the fullest, and trust that this too shall pass. The promise, they say, is that a soft heart breeds courage.”
He added, “I hope it’s true… I’m sharing this to keep it alive [100] and hope [sic] hopefully the knowledge of my experience will be useful to others out there in the grip of heartbreak who are ready to try and escape the pain and loss of wisdom that comes from it.”
Nyong’o and Masekela started their romance on Instagram last December with an IG reel showing them taking part in the viral trend where you change clothes after snapping your fingers.
At the time, the couple’s announcement received a lot of support from fans and celebrities.

The two newly single actors sparked gossip on Wednesday after they were spotted together at a Janelle Monae concert.
Jackson, who is divorced from actress Jodie Turner-Smith, sat next to Nyong’o as they enjoyed the show at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California.
The two were dressed casually and reportedly arrived at the venue together, where Nyong’o introduced Jackson to some of her friends.
Although the nature of their relationship is unclear, an insider revealed it TMZ that they are between a group of 9 to 10 friends and have known each other for years. Insiders also claim that there is nothing romantic between Jackson and Nyong’o.
