Madonna’s Family Confirms Death Of Her 66-Year-Old Brother, Anthony Ciccone

Madonna’s elder brother, Anthony Ciccone, has died at the age of 66. The sad news was shared by his brother-in-law, Joe Henry, who made the announcement on his Instagram by posting a black and white photo of the late Anthony.

In the post, Henry talks about how the Ciccone family stayed in touch despite Anthony’s death. Madonna and Anthony were two of their mother’s eight children before she died of breast cancer in 1963. For years, Anthony battled alcohol and was homeless and lived under a bridge in Michigan.

In 2017, Anthony completed a voluntary rehabilitation program at the Dann’s House facility and reconciled with his family. However, he previously accused the same family of not caring about him and whether he was alive or frozen to death.

Joe Henry, the husband of Madonna’s sister Melanie, announced their older brother Anthony had died in an Instagram post on Saturday. 62-year-old Henry shared a black and white photo of the late Anthony and captioned the announcement.

In the caption, he wrote, “My brother-in-law, Anthony Gerard Ciccone, left this world plane this afternoon. I have known him since I was 15 years old, in the spring of our life in Michigan many years ago.”

Henry continued with the caption, “As Dave Henry’s brother (Anthony’s photographer) notes here, Anthony is a complex character; and god knows: we tangled in a few moments, as true brothers can. But I love him, and understand him better than I am sometimes willing to let on.”

In the announcement, Henry stated that although the “problems are finally gone,” the family will always remain with “hands outstretched” to each other.

He ended with a touching message to Anthony, saying, “Farewell, then, brother Anthony. I want to think that the god who blessed your mother (and me) is there, waiting to receive you. At least for today, no one will stop me from this vision.”

Madonna and Anthony are two of eight children, and they all grew up in Michigan with their father and mother, who are also named Madonna. At the time of his death, Anthony had moved back to their home in Michigan. Their mother died at the age of 33 in 1963 after being diagnosed with and battling breast cancer.

Anthony dealt with alcohol for many years of his life, even being homeless for a while. At one point, he even left his family and was photographed living under a bridge with other homeless people in Michigan.

At the end of 2017, the Daily Mail confirmed that Anthony had completed a rehabilitation program, which helped him reconnect with the Ciccone family. The rehabilitation facility, Dann’s House, is a revolutionary facility that reportedly allows its residents to consume alcohol without stopping. The facility’s founder, Karen McCarthy, spoke to Sunday people about Anthony’s stay.

She said, “Anthony loved it at Dann’s House for quite some time, and made significant improvements in his life while he was with us.”

Years ago, Anthony spoke negatively about Madonna, her parents, and her other siblings, saying they never cared about her. According to Daily Mail, Anthony said, “I am zero in their eyes – not a person. I am a shy person. If I freeze to death, my family probably won’t know or care about it for six months.”

He went on to say, “My father will be very happy if I die of hypothermia, then he won’t have to worry anymore. He’s old school, he grew up in depression.”

Anthony directly mentioned his sister, Madonna, saying she “never loved” the “Material Girl” singer and that they never really “loved each other.”
