An airline passenger is making waves online for refusing to switch seats with a pregnant woman — some of whom are praising him for sticking up for “entitled” passengers.
The man, whose username is michaeldonnelly, wrote about his situation on Reddit earlier this month in a post asking other users to weigh in on whether he made a mistake.
“I flew by myself on a 5+ hour flight to visit family during the holidays. I specifically reserved and paid extra for an aisle seat in the second to last row because I have a medical issue that sometimes requires quick access to the bathroom,” she wrote.
“Before boarding the plane, a woman asked me to give up her seat so she could sit closer to the bathroom. She’s pregnant but doesn’t seem depressed,” he continued, adding that while he empathized with her situation, he thought it was unfair to be asked to leave the seat he paid for to accommodate his health condition.
The man said the woman even tried in vain to get a flight attendant to mediate the situation after she refused to change seats, but noted that she angered her own family, who believed that she “should have made it difficult for me and let me. seat.”

Commenters quickly flocked to the poster’s defense with most chastising the woman for a combination of poor planning, qualifications and cheap prices.
“He should have booked another seat that he wanted himself or not board the flight. It seems he just assumed he wouldn’t have to pay it, because someone would move,” wrote one.
“The flight attendant is at fault for not mediating. At some point, they should have told him to go back to his seat,” they added, explaining that their reasoning did not take into account the user’s medical problems.
Other users blasted the woman for “public shaming,” with one saying her attempt to engage the flight attendant was an indication she wanted to “make it hard for the person to change.”
“Because she felt entitled to it because she was pregnant. He thought he could use it to his advantage. But, he found he couldn’t. And indeed OP!!! You book and pay for the seat,” said one commenter.

Even other pregnant women were among the Reddit users who came to the defense of the original poster.
“As a pregnant woman with Crohn’s, I also vote OP is NTA! [not at fault] It’s fine if people offer me pregnancy privileges but I sure as hell won’t claim them! And knowing my constraints, I booked the seats I needed,” said the woman.
Another commenter claimed that pregnant women and brides are responsible for “most of the bad behavior on this site,” adding, “I’m really tired of stories from both of them.”
After several confirming messages, the poster came back to agree with one user who suggested the woman size up all the passengers in the other lane and target her.
“I must see the easiest pushover,” he wrote.
