Tensions are sure to rise as the strike action has turned from day to month, but Mandy Moore is not mincing words about SAG-AFTRA’s latest announcement.
The actress called out the SAG-AFTRA body as it ordered its members to boycott Halloween, especially in costume choices. Moore has been outspoken about his frustrations with remaining wages and has been on the picket line in the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
Mandy Moore Says SAG-AFTRA Should Focus On More Important Things
The “This Is Us” actress went silent on her Instagram Story after SAG-AFTRA released its new guidelines for members on Halloween. He uploaded a photo of the magazine’s headline that read, “Halloween on Strike: SAG-AFTRA Tells Members Not to Dress Up as Characters From Struck Companies.”
In her vehement denial of the decision, which she felt was not an “important” matter for the body to focus on, and ultimately described it as a joke, the actress wrote:
“We ask that you negotiate in good faith on our behalf. So many people across every facet of this industry have made tremendous sacrifices over the months. Go back to the table and get a fair deal so everyone can get back to work. Please and thank you.”
It all started when SAG-AFRA issued a set of guidelines for its members to follow during the spooky season. A statement was released on the body’s website that read:
“This Halloween, we want to make sure our members don’t accidentally break the strike rules and have put together some quick tips on costume dos and don’ts. Check them out and have a spooky Halloween!”

The union added a graphic stating that its members should choose only clothing inspired by general figures and characters from off-beat content such as animated shows. Members are also advised not to share photos of their outfits that may have tone or inspiration from interesting content on social media.
According to the body, the idea behind the guidelines is to “send a loud and clear message to our employers that we will not promote their content without a fair contract.”
SAG-AFTRA covers approximately 160,000 actors, broadcast journalists, dancers, DJs, news writers, news editors, program hosts, puppeteers, recording artists, singers, stunt performers, voiceover artists, announcers and other media professionals.
Halloween’s notice comes days after the union announced that recent negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) had failed to yield positive results. The union shared that industry CEOs have left the bargaining table because they refuse to go against the latest offer. They added:
“We have negotiated with them in good faith, despite the fact that last week they presented an offer which, surprisingly, was worth less than what they had proposed before the strike started.”

Moore’s concerns about the strike and the union’s decision aren’t superficial, as the actress revealed in July that she wasn’t making as much as fans thought. Despite her two-decade career in Hollywood, the actress took to the streets to protest low pay and also had a few things to say:
“The waste issue is a big issue. We are in the very fortunate position that working actors have been on shows that have found incredible success in one way or another but many actors in our position go for years before we can live off scraps or at least pay their bills. .”
Per The Blast, her streaming residuals from “This Is Us,” in which she played Rebecca Pearson from 2016-2022, raked in “very little, like an 81 cent check” despite the series’ popularity.
He continued that a conversation with his business manager revealed he received balances for one cent and two cents. The mother-of-two explained the issue in a lengthy Instagram caption, which read:
“I fully acknowledge my position as a very lucky and outstanding actor at this time, one that I do not take for granted and one that I also do not think will last forever. Ours is a fickle industry and in the 20+ years I’ve been a performer, my career has ebbed and flowed.
He added that he had “very lean years” where he couldn’t get a job, noting that those were the moments when actors and performers could use leftovers “from their past work to help them survive.”
Moore broke into the industry in the 2001 hit film “Dr. Dolittle 2,” he has starred in many blockbuster productions. He has been a member of SAG-AFTRA since 1999.
